yeah but wikipedia doesn't make any money, so it would be a worthless investment for Google. the wikipedia founders wouldn't just let google buy them out and say "sure, you can put ads on there", it would go against the mission statement of the site and therefore google wouldn't be interested at all.
Google wouldn't put ads on it. Wikipedia would be a likely buy for Google if Wiki is interested in selling of course. Money isn't a option to Google really. They care more about providing what users want. They spent way more in YouTube then they will make for a good while. They knew it was popular however and wanted it.
I don't think google is going to buy either of them. They are going to be spending the next few years trying to figure out how to make 1.65 + billion dollars on YouTube to make their money back.
Actually from reliable sources - Google had 10bil to spend, and they bought youtube.. they dont really need to "Make their money back" but they obviously will.
no I do not think google will buy it, yet I heard many rumors of offers been on the table from many interested parties.
God, I hope not. I just posted a rant about those two on my blog and how I think I have traced back my banishment from AdSense to getting Dugg.
Google may one day buy digg, but definitely no time soon. Google haven't created there own social site and when that flops (which it will) they'll buy the best social site about (whever it's Digg or Del.icio.us or whatever)
Google are compulsive buyers... Give it a year and they'll probably own your home Any 'innovative' service/site at the top of their game is surely on the wish list of Google for a buy-out, so I'd expect that they will definately be some suprise and not so suprise purchases by Google next year.
Why should Google buy Digg? They can create their own within days and can make it top in a short span without doing lot of promotion for it. What domain name would google keep for their(may be) new social bookmarking site ? -- Goog.com
