i read somewhere that the chineese goverment were re-directing hits to the google homepage to baidu at the root level. the internet in china is 50% censored - eg try to access bbc.co.uk in china and you cant.

Unfortunatly yes I think they definatly are and we are all going to pay for it rather soon, once they hold the cards to all visitors for your site they can charge as they wish for advertising on the internet, things could get out of hand very quickly now they already hold asmuch of the market as they do. I was just reading over another post in the forum here and was thinking alot of what is said in it is very true.

I feel yes they are on the brink of it now and are testing the warters with their new ways of penalizing anybody who links to another site basicly. It will soon be a matter of advertise with crappy adsence or have your site not seen by anybody, search engine wise anyways.

Of course there are always other way of getting traffic to your websites other than search engines, even more so for certain types of sites. Thing is for other types of sites they rely on search engines for new cutomers and no other advertising works quite in the same way.

Unfortunatly Google at this rate will soon spoil that totally and it will be a matter of advertise with google or get no new visitors for those site who rely on search engines for new customers, wich I suppose will be great for Google maybe but I somehow feel it will totally ruine the internet as we know it.
