Exactly what I thought. I can access other pages fine but not Google. Email works. Maybe its just in Eastern Canada? Anyone?
I am downloading a new version of Adaware right now. My system is running a bit slow also. Thanks. I think you solved my mystery.
Finally got it going. I did have some kind of spyware or virus. It only disappeared the second time when I wiped out the Alexa spyware. Is it possible that other spyware software is identifying itself as Alexa? There seemed to be quite a bit of it. P.S. I installed an update to Windows recently. For a second I thought Microsoft had found a fool proof way of gettting rid of Google.
It may have been an issue with your ISP, or router. I'm not a techie, but if your DNS settings are messed up, certain sites won't be available. This might help: run-> cmd ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew
I noted the same problem accessing google.com from the uk - I kept being re-routed to google.co.uk yesterday and today is the same.
fryman, that releases your IP / DNS / entries from your ISP. Then when you renew, it regrabs this information from the ISP (or your router) again. It's my quick way of getting a computer recognized when changing the network configs on a computer.
I don't know why people aren't now suggesting Microsoft Anti-Spyware Beta. This program absolutely rocks. I mean, you get alerted when any software adds anything to your startup either on the start menu or registry. It always runs and checks for spyware. Its free too. All you need is a valid XP license.
Not sure what that has to do with Google.com redirecting but it is good. Here's a link to the download page: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
The command simply releases your DHCP (dynamically assigned) address, assuming you are running DHCP, and assigns a new one. Not really gonna help in this case anyway..
