I just checked McDar and my site is showing 0 backlinks, 0 pages indexed by google. I also checked theknot.com and ebay and they have the same results. Does this mean anything?
When the update does occur, will all new backlinks suddenly affect my site rankings or have they already been helping my rankings but just not reported by google?
ok, even yahoo is showing all 0's except in the columf of the backlinks in yahoo. All of the queries I have run show nothing in the top ten sites list either. Do I have permission to be excited yet?
Jan, why do you say that. I have been that for quite a while and have added quite a few links that should be showing up with this update. My question is how does google work. As you collect links and google crawls them, do they start benefitting you as they are crawled or do they kick in after the update? If you get the benefit right away then why the hype with the updates if all the update does is tell you that you have XX links now when before you just had X links. I have the same question with PR. i have had people say that toolbar PR and real time PR is different. Well if your real PR is already in affect as you accumulate new links then the only advantage of the toolbar update is bragging rights and saleability.
They will benefit you when indexed by the spiders, that's also the power of the coop, you can get quick results! I have had some changes with my keywords without the change of pr or backlinks.
If this is the case then if I have aquired some high PR one way links and dozens of others, should't it make a dent in my keyword placement? If I am starting with 21 BL and should have well over 200, maybe 1/3 of that is pr4 or more then shouldn't I have moved up at least a little? Please tell me this, why is everyone so ancy about the PR updates and BL updates if the betefit of collecting the links has already taken affect?
FTEGal, just a few things to keep in mind: - G shows only a subset of links to your site, it will never show all; - the BL number is actually pretty meaningless and nothing to get excited about; - G is updating all the time and prolly finds your new links within hours or days; - very soon such changes are then reflected in rankings; - BL and PR figures are what G shows externally but not necessarily what it uses for ranking; - indeed the update hype seems largely unjustified - but still interesting
I am very disapointed after reading this. I was hoping for a large jump in my keyword placement following this update. Now it sounds like nothing will change except the number it shows for BL. I really don't care what the number of back links is as long as my site is at the top for my keywords.
Jan is right with those points. In my opinion; keep working on getting incomming links with your keywords and things will come! Don't expect results overnight. It also depents on which keywords you're targetting. For one site I have over 300 BL's but google is only showing about 80.. so what google shows isn't actually the amount of BL's you have to a site.
FTEGal, your business and keywords may be very competitive. Your site looks very neat, but you may need a fresh look by a SEO expert. There should be enough of them here and I think I remember some of the lady experts mentioning the wedding dress trade before.
