Is google counting no follow links

    Hi,

Recently I visited a forum that has a discussion that google has started counting no follow links, most of the people were confirming it.

But, there is no official claim about it.

I would like to know is that true?

Is Google really counting no follow links. I would like to get or share your opinion about that.

If anybody knew about this, then please share the link with us.

I think, there is no use of counting the links of Nofollow, It's good for SERP. And i wanna disagree with lamilao there is no chance of getting rank because of nofollow links. It may be because of other DoFollow backlinks.

There has been many threads on this matter. Matt Cutts says no, it's up to us if we want to believe him or not. See his video explaining here

no follow links are counted but has no value. In other words, no follow tagged links are useless in terms of PR and ranking

Actually somebody must have mis-read everything. Yes there was a certain problem with nofollow tags but the problem was with Bing. Bing results are strange results because the Bing spider indexes nofollow pages, this phenomenon led to many people jumping their guns over Bing and calling it a revolution because it was indexing their site so well (no points for guessing why there was such hue and cry with Bing). Google asnt made any majorchanges yet, Caffeine is not reported to be a nofollow counter, only other news heard about google is the introduction of a something called breadcrumbs. Yahoo does count nofollow links btw.

google may follow it for indexing, but it won't have any effect on your rankings

I think this is how google algorithm works.
    Assume a page has 10 links (5 follow + 5 nofollow)
It was working like the follow links will get 1/5 in that page rank algorithm (it is a numerical methods based algorithm) and no follow will get 0's

Now it is working like follow links will get 1/10 and no follow will get 0's

What kawebspy has said is exactly correct, it is counted and influences other links and it won't get any value.

If nofollow links are for counted, then they don't pass PR or pass very little. I have a large amount of Wikipedia links to pages that don't have a big PR.

Whether Google counts them or not, it makes sense to build some into your link profile to keep it looking natural. Don't take everything at face value ;)

In a nut shell - since the recent Google algo change...

    1) ALWAYS use no-follow links for sites you can't trust.

    2) DO NOT use no-follow links to your own internal pages - as you will LOSE pagerank to your inner pages.

    Cheers.

no follow links do help you to rank for their anchor phrase. They just don't pass pr. Anybody can test this for themselves. Open two new blogs, write similar content on both around a specific keyword, use that keyword in both of the blogs title and meta. Now don't get any links to one of the blogs, and get 100 no follow links to the other. I GUARANTEE 100% that the blog with the no follow links will rank much higher for the chosen keyword than the blog with equal content and meta but no links.
