Dear Guys, I can see a lot of traffic for the past one week which comes under google.com in referring sites section of google analytics. I don't understand how is it possible where google is considered under search engines category, then how it comes under referring sites. Please clarify! Thanks in advance
If your web traffic tracking program is like the ones I am familiar with, the google.com reference is likely just to display the total number of visitors coming from Google. It should then break down that total number of visitors into the specific search terms that they came in from. View the google.com number as just a total of all the traffic listed under the search engine category and not as a separate number.
So you mean to say it displays the total number of visitors coming from google.com, right? But i still don't understand how they count the total traffic as the users search with keywords in search engines to get relevant results. In that case, keywords play the role and not referring site. Can you please explain me in detail? Thanks in advance
Yes. It will be the total number of visitors that you have coming from Google. It depends on your traffic tracking software/script, but look for an option to narrow things down more. I have included two images below from the Analytics account for one of my new sites that hopefully will show what I mean.
thanks for sharing the valuable information. actually Google analytics just consider the organic traffic as from Google dot com. others are referrals. even google dot com / fr or in or dn etc.
