    Google probably has more than a 4byte docid by now.

    Where they may be broken is in filtering out the spam.

    There's no point upping your index from 4 Billion to a trillion or whatever if most of it is SEO spam that your algorithms can't filter it and put the junk at the bottom.

    So if the google index isn't growing as fast as it seems like it should, this may be why. There has been speculating along these lines elsewhere in DP forum I believe, maybe even on this thread.
