I have a site that analytics says gets 30 visits a day , but other sites report that I'm getting 2000 visits a day. Does anyone know why there is such a difference?
Its not accurate. Try this -- do a search for a phrase that will bring up your site; make the phrase so unique that you know that there is no way that anyone else would ever search for your site using those terms; click on your site in the search results; wait a bit and then check Google analytics to see what Google reports how often that term was used to bring up your site. Then try saying "Google analytics is accurate" with a straight face. I have raised this several times before elsewhere and no one have given me an explanation (I even posted it in the Google analytics help group)
Some counters may be including spiders and bots and others just humans so that would make a big difference as well.
I have found google analytics mostly accurate but the display of results are delayed by as much as 24 hours.... Regards, RightMan
It isn't. For instance, when I created a new site of mine, I emailed it to a few people at work. They all opened it up. Analytics reported 0 hits that day...
Which are these other sites that report that you get 2K visits a day? If you think GA isn't accurate, try out Statcounter or any other free program.
No tool is accurate. Any tool may have some defects. But when we compare Google analytics with other tools it is far better.
Google Analytics is the best tool that you can get for Web Analytics, as of today. However, the results are delayed by 12-24 hours .

Thanks for all the info everyone. websiteoutlook.com reports my site at around 2000 visits a day, and several other of those "website value" sites report similar values. Are they just making it up? I mean my site is a PR4 but google says 37 visits a day while these say 2000? Which is right?
There are "Page Views" and then there are "Unique Page Views" being reported. If someone visits you site and navigates back and forth between your home page and it's child pages, this "traffic" is logged by the analytic tracking code. Now, if you land on a page and press <ctrl><F5>, the page refreshes. Do this a hundred times. The analytic tracking code will count this as a hundred "page views". Or, if you put two copies of the analytic trcking code on a page, you will double the "traffic" or page views. But, you will see that the "unique page views" will only be one (or from one IP Address). Also, check out you server logs, this is a more accurate source of real traffic count. And last, it's free. It's has excellent Analytics software that displays information that is also free. So be greatful that you have something. Do you want to use what Yahoo, MSN/Live, ASK or the others offer.
It is delay only a couple of hours. 3 hours maximum. There is a date function that you select. You can select today's day and it will display today's data and I check less than 3 hours and it is updated.
by going to Quancast you will get very accurate results. It is weird that Google analytics is stating something different. Try Quancast and let me know how it goes
Google Analytics is accurate in my point of view untill or unless your website server has gone down or analytics code in your website has affected. Many Thanks SEO Company Singapore http://www.themedseoservices.com
It's not 100% in my experience, so I still cling to AWStats. It's not as pretty, but I get more accurate info from it. Still use GA for some of the features that AW lacks, but take the results with a pinch of salt.
