Google Inc. backs Yahoo in its effort to stave off an unsolicited takeover by Microsoft Corp. because an independent Yahoo will increase competition in the Internet search and advertising markets, Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt said here Thursday.

"We absolutely support the decision that Yahoo made" in rejecting the Microsoft overture, Schmidt said at the annual Allen & Co. media summit at this Idaho resort. He made the comments during an hourlong interview with reporters. Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin were also present.

"There is no question in our view that an independent Yahoo is better," Schmidt It "will provide more competition in search and other advertising markets, in particular in display advertising," he said.

Google wouldlove to gobble up another piece of the search egnine market pie, so it will be happy to support yahoo. Google doesnt have any reason to be affriad. no one says "I'll yahoo it" do they?

Actually, I'm sure Google doesn't want Microsoft to get their hands on the 360 patent that Yahoo! has, since it would compete with their ad network directly and be a very real threat to their profits.

Soon msn will get yahoo and that means 30% of the search market share. Google still doubles that but a few goiod moves here by microhoo and a few bad moves there by google? That means more options for publishers.

Google is just following an age old strategy, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and is trying to make use of one against the other. Smart move!

ya, I only ever say, "Google it!" However, I find myself seaching on yahoo about 20% of the time b/c certain searches are better with them.. also, some of the Google censoring is lame.. a search engine shouldn't do that... ya, if it has bad code on the site... but not censor things that would be bad for their public relations... they're a search engine.. not a political authority. Also, Microsoft needs Yahoo! for search market survival... I don't really know of anyone that uses MSN search anymore.. and their mail client is lame..

Why wouldn't they support Yahoo's decision? Didn't Google get a stab at running their ads on the Yahoo network? That means they don't really have to win that market share - Yahoo is allowing them to advertise on it anyway. And for Google, it sure as hell beats microsoft having it :D

The only thing Google is afraid of is Microsoft getting Yahoo technology and patents. With $45 billion to throw at Yahoo, it shows how much Microsoft are willing to spend to grab a large slice of the search market and more importantly its technologies.

    Yep,
Microsoft and Yahoo! failed to get us, the publishers good options.

So that merge might help us!
Who know, heck with that - we need more Adsense options.

I've mentioned this before but there is no money for google for ads that run on third party sites, most of what google brings in gets paid out. Hence the little respect for the publishers.

If I'm looking for information I'll sometimes use Yahoo if Google results aren't coming up with what I want, but for shopping I'll always use Google.

I don't use Live at all, bit like Ask, the quality of the results is what I'd have expected 5 years ago, not now.

The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend

The Friend of My Friend is My Friend

The Friend of My Enemy is My Friend

The Enemy of My Friend is My Enemy

Google will ever support Yahoo because it doesn't need those two enemies to ally together, It'd be dangerous.

    Thx, LeVampire
