No, Adwords and the organic listings have no relationship..buying ads will not help you with the serps.

Yes, there is no proof that Adwords will help you in organic, however we did put this to the test with a lead gen page for a free whitepaper and got some interesting results.

We ran a ppc campaign for about six months sending traffic to a new landing page. The page had no inbound links and was not the home page of the site. The page had only the most basic of on-page optimizations. After the six month ppc campaign ended, we noticed the page ranked #2 in Google for a phrase with 6 million results and was now a PR of 2.

It it possible that people may find your site through your adwords campaign then link to it naturally if it's any good, so it can help in that way, but not in a direct way.

Although what textbox said is interesting.

I agree with textbox on that research, I have done a short term test with clean new pages No Inbound links Just adwords and made sure it was on sitemap.
    Basic seo.
I have found my new pages are Indexed faster and ranked higher if they have an adwords campaign pointing to them.
1 In particular took off within 24 hours, I paused the adwords after 3 weeks and the traffic is still growing. (all Google organic) The page has been live for 7 weeks now in total and has been a great earner.

My Thoughts are You should Include a small adwords campaighn when launching a new page or project, It can't hurt and it seems to help.

    take care

Emphatically "NO", adwords does not mean higher natural rankings - although as textbox said, more people find your site, which increases the chance of being linked to, which then can increase hour rank

This is becoming a very interesting discussion DP'ers. I wanted to add in that there has been no inbound links added during the campaign or after the campaign to the lead gen page. There are only the links that were internal from the other pages of the site.

Do I think that PPC leads to gains in the SERPs. Still no. Is it possible that all the traffic we sent to the page gave it the boost. Maybe. So now the question is, how much does traffic play into PR.

As others replied, adwords has nothing to do with Google ranking. It is better you read a ebook called: search engine starter guide. It is made by google.

I don't think AdWords has to do with your PR but I could be wrong.

There was a thread about this same issue about a month ago in another forum. Might have been this one, I don't recall.

PPC and SEO have nothing to do with each other. Any apparent improvement to natural rankings by using PPC is an illusion. Test it. Pause your campaign for a while and see if your rankings change.

No, its not. But if you have a good on page SEO on your site that will help you in the AdWords competition and in the end save you money.

I started using Yahoo Search Marketing a while back, and noticed after running my ads on their content network, my domain complete with the ad I used would appear on search networks.

I don't know why it happens exactly.

The description that Yahoo or Google gives on their search listing is slightly cached, right?. So if my ad displayed on About.com, Google or Yahoo could possibly save my Ad or Domain in the Search Description when someone makes their google or yahoo search and possibly highlight it in bold even.

Either way, if my website is showing up on yahoo or google, because of an Ad I ran, that is something to think about.

Thanks I was wondering if there was more I could do to promote my site, and it looks like adwords will be an invaluable tool.

It will help you increase traffic, but it won't effect your search engine rankings. To do that, you will need to learn SEO techniques - and a lot of it has to do with creating quality backlinks to your site, and creating unique content for your site as well.
