I have a page that I am working on, and I have it set at 980px width, but I am wondering if it would be ok to go up to something like 1020px or 1040px width. It is one of my first pages, so I am not sure, but I know that I dont want to mess with all the flexible layout etc (that adjusts to browser size etc). Thanks.
If you don't want to mess with flexible layouts, i reccoment to use 960px or even maybe 980. If you are new to desing, try to use http://960.gs/ Regards, Michael
Yes, Using 980 pixel width is standard with for every web site. Using this width you can not see the horizantal scroll with 1024 pixel screen resolutions monitor. So, As per my opinion 980pix width is perfect for web designing.
Nowadays, Width of 980 pixel is the ideal size for any webpage. But if you want to decrease the width of the webpage then reduce its width to 800 pixel which is the minimal width of the webpage but don't decrease less than it otherwise webpage will appear scratched on the larger screen.
Depends on your target audience. I'm happy to go 1200+ on sites that I KNOW will be getting an audience running higher res. Here's some numbers : http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp
