Is godaddy faster than HostGator?

I have run some tests and I see that my sites hosted on godaddy have an Average Speed per KB of 0.44 seconds while sites hosted on hostgator have an average of 0.03 seconds. There is a considerable difference between them. I want to move away from godaddy but I need to know if this is how hostgator works by default or is something temporary.

Godaddy is horrible for hosting. HostGator is a good budget host. There is no universal speed for shared hosting from any host using multiple servers. Give them a try and if it isn't working for you, they have a money back guarantee.

I am not worried about the money, I am worried about the time I have to invest to move everything. I want to be sure that I am doing the right thing. Moving over 20 sites is not an easy thing.

Why do you have to move all 20 sites to test the server speed? Move one and if you are happy, then move the rest. I've had a shared hostgator account for 5 years and have used all the other major players and have never found any of them that were equal. I use a monitoring service and the uptime is as good or better than other managed VPS hosts I use. If you are looking for a VPS, then there are some good options like KnownHost or Wiredtree.

Hostgator is expensive but it is a lot better than godaddys hosting. I was with them for 2 weeks and I hated every minute of it.

I have already moved a few sites to test hostgator. I have mentioned this in my 1st post.

The 1st two sites are on hostgator, the 2nd to are at godaddy. As you can see, their load time is significantly different.

Your first post says .44 for godaddy and .03 for hostgator. It also looks like you are comparing a server in Amsterdam with a US host - of course there is going to be a speed difference. If you are targeting US traffic, your sever should be in the US.

The script doesn't matter. Look at the average download speed.

Anyone knows if all the goodaddy hosting packages have that "tax" thing attached? I am paying $1 and something as "taxes".

Godaddy hosting has got many negative reviews and is notorious for its speed. HostGator seems to be standard. So, I think your time and resource spent on moving won't go waste.

Hostgator is good for a small budget, I wouldn't recommend using Godaddy Hosting, had too many problems with them

I cannot belive that GOdaddy hosting is faster than hostgator's

Hostgator sucks. its 2 weeks I am having problems with them because they think my 20 blogs with 20 visitors per day make their CPU usage go beyond limits. So if you are going to have 400 uniques a day go for something else, otherwise HG will start selling their VPS and Dedicated servers on you

Are you sure that they do it with 400 uniques only?
One of my friend got this problem with Hostgator and had to shift to wired tree.

I think the problem is from your blog script or the pulugin you used. I'm at HG for almost 2 years using shared hosting and several blog got more than 1k UV/day and there is no problem till now.

I am a windows administrator myself. What frustrates me. First they asked me to install a cache plugin on all WordPress blogs. I did it. Next day they said it didnt solve the problem and I have to disable a few plugins. Well I did disable a few plugins and took out 9 sites to other hosting accounts. In 3 days they again blocked telling the sites left over on the host still consume CPU and that I HAVE TO BUY THEIR VPS or DEDICATED. Well of course I found another cheaper solution at other hosting company (WebAir) and moved the sites there leaving only static sites, 2 dynamic and 2 wordpress on HG. The security team that originated this issue from the begining failed to reopen my account. But the team working next day opened.

The problem is that all my sites couldnt just start using CPU all of a sudden, something happened there, which, they as security administrators could not define and if I was not a web person, they would have forced me to buy a VPS or DEDI from them.

I have over 10 accounts at HG, but now I am too scared they will start blocking one after another

When I asked them why is HG slower than GoDaddy they told me to install a cache plugin. :)
I tried to explain them that I am talking about the average download speed, not a single site or something..

Anyways... I am moving my sites to HostGator.. GoDaddy sux big time.. I will test HostGator, if they suck to.. that`s it.. I'll find something else.

I think you will never know that unless you try both of them.
