Is Global Warming Real?

I wasn't all the way convinced until I saw a special last night on NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC - I know, NERDY.

At the rate the Polar Ice Caps are melting, almost 5 times faster than just 10 years ago, we are headed for a major disaster if the planet doesn't do things to protect against the warming trend - IE, find something else for fuel.

With all the data that exists, do ya still not believe in GLOBAL WARMING?

    Who doesn't believe in it?
The question is how has man contributed to it. Climate change is a natural phenomenon.

I do think its real but I doubt we would be able to stop it on time. People are reluctant to do anything because this problem is long term. Kinda like smoking... millions of people know it will eventually kill them but most of them will never quit.

Doesn't anyone remember there's been several periods in time where the majority of the northern hemisphere was a giant ice cap...then thousands of years later it had blistering hot temperatures all the time? That's called natural progression, let it be.

There is global warming happening... and the only cause or it is man-made activity... it is the only variable...

The overwhelming majority of scientific evidence in recent decades tells us this.

This is what happens when the world industrialises folks... you pump up obnoxious poisonous gases and fumes into the atmosphere for 200 years, and eventually the environment goes bang...

Warming is real for sure. Question is if we as human being can really do much about it.

I used to think that global warming didn't exist but now I do for various reasons.

However I think that the 'one world government' is exploiting it in order to tax just about everything.

The issue shouldn't be that the world is warming. The topic should remain pollution, and its rampant. Why do we worry about the side effect when the problem, pollution, is right in front of our eyes? If you had cancer, you wouldn't worry about your lack of appetite, you'd worry about future cell degeneration. If you had just gotten in an auto accident, forget the headlights, the car just lost $4000 in value.

The problem isn't warming, its pollution on all fronts.

Too bad temperatures have been dropping since 1998; and that scientists predict that the planet will cool for another 11 or 12 years.

And, if you add that to the fact that global warming models are based upon a model that was created in the 1920s or something that assumed an infinitely thick atmosphere (and we all know that the earth's atmosphere ends, right?), then global warming might have a case.

But you can more accurately point to the sun for global warming and cooling (think sunspots) than you can anything else.

Global warming is really just a scam pushed by governments to get more taxes out of people and more control over economies. There is no scientific "consensus" on the matter at all.

The rate at which we're warming is caused by man...global warming is a natural and cyclical part of mother nature. If we were to stop production of fuel and never drive a car again, it wouldn't help that much. Those bastard scientists!

I forgot what article I was reading but basically it stated that the earth is behaving like someone who becomes ill. As an example when an individual becomes ill he starts to cough and sneeze. The same way we have made our planet ill by polluting it for countless years. So like the human body it trying to heal itself which involves forcing out anything that is making it ill.

In other words we are like the micro organisms and germs that make the human body ill. Now the earth is using its own defense mechanism to help itself(I think they were referring to natural disasters).

So if we can't live like good little parasites on the earth :D Then we're probably going to be expelled or greatly reduced in number until we don't have a significant affect on the planet.

Even if climate change is a reality as some claim, there is no proven link between human activity and climate change. For some reason - maybe we all like to feel guilty about something - whenever climate change is mentioned, it's assumed it all our fault.

That was an EXCELLENT way of putting it! You're absolutely right, and if anyone is still in denial about it, do some reading. I doubted it as well as if it were a myth or a tall tale. It isn't - it's very real.

I honestly don't believe it. Given the sheer size of the earth and the intricacy of all life on this planet, it's hard to believe that human activity can really alter the earth's climate. I tend to think more on the line that global warming is a natural trend. We've really had technology in the last, what, 100 years or so to detect/monitor global weather. But how old is the earth? 4billion something years according to scientists? If you put the earth's age as the width of your computer screen, and consider the time that humans had technology to detect global weather, our time on earth is barely the size of the period ending this sentence. To think that we know global weather trend going back thousands, millions, BILLIONS???, is well... just plain human arrogance.
