I'm seeing a few in the network, and I'd rather not be linking to them if any harm is going to come from it....

What's "spammy" about them. I've seen a few, don't know if they are the same ones you are talking about.

I think "most" Metho sites are spammy, as in just little content and built for adsense, and this still remains the only problem that I can see with the coop, you can't be penalized for inbound links but linking to bad neighbours could do a lot of damage, then again its a free service so we have no right to veto or approve/disapprove other sites.

    but we can make suggestions.

Meso is almost always a bad neighborhood (isn't it) because 99% violate Adsense TOS. I don't know much about SEO but G has always been mean to me and I don't want to make her even more angry. I'm just testing the water here to see if anyone has noticed this.

besides, if teh coop starts getting a bad name penalization might lie on the horizon.

You can't generalize. Why don't you ask "Is G going to penalize us for linking to spammy mortage sites?" "Is G going to penalize us for linking to spammy HTML Coding Tutorials sites"?
Is G going to penalize us for linking to...

    you..............

Google can generalize though, and it can punish and when she does, well, google must be female, hell hath no fury like a google scorned, thinking you are linking to a bad neighbour.

I do think we should be quite strict about what we allow in the coop.

You cant say that, porn? gambling? There are already restrictions implemented.
The question is whether they are enough, not whether we should because they are already there!

you are being unreasonable, and if ur running one of those pages im sorry but I'm just concerned that G is eventually going to put a blanket over more areas

David, I agree that we should kick the spammy sites out of here, but saying that every mesotheiloma site is spammy isn't correct. Heck, I am building one to test the $100 dollar click myth, but I will use SEO and experience instead of doorway pages and cloaking. Why shouldn't I be allowed to use the coop?

Found a spam site? Great, post it here and we will all judge it. We have already voted to kick out many sites, and will continue doing it.

fair enuf. Let's just use this thread from now on to report deceptive meso practices, because as the network grows we will be getting members with less honorable intentions than yours, fryman.

Don't worry, just keep clicking every now and again on the cooped links on your site and check if there is any bad site and post it. That is how we have booted several rotten apples :D

You guys are playing with fire if you're accepting Meso type sites, the parameters to what may constitute a bad neighbourhood may be wider than previously thought, and the indications of one harder to discern.

Page 2 has the interesting part....

In my humble opinion a bad neighborhood would be a site that is NOT indexed by Google.

Coop sites are all indexed by Google.

Can Google penalize you for linking to pages it lists in it's own index??? I don't think so.

If Google doesn't like a site it drops it from it's index. It doesn't assign a tag of "bad neighborhood".
