Is FREEBIE bookshop a scam?

How clever, a typo and the author gets 100% of the profit.

This must be a "mistake" just like the NOFOLLOW tags were? This guy is using you people, he's a rip off. There "I" said it.

I saw him crying that someone modded the code and they should remove it in a fit of copyright infringement. But the copyright is a complete rip off as it misrepresents the code. It can not be enforceable IMO since it is a lie. But I'm no attorney.

I wonder if all of you will get a check for the 50% you didn't recieve? It's in his contract, read copyright, that for running his software you split the profit. I wonder if he'll uphold that part of the copyright and repay you or only the part of the copyright where he can make people remove it for modding the code?

 

I am also using a older version of freebie, I just downloaded the latest version and I don't really know where the affialte check is in the new one, so .... this might have been just been a mistake on the earlier version.

What a cheat! No let me put it bluntly, the author of FREEBIE is a scammer IMO. From NOFOLLOW tags, munged useless keyword text, and now this.

And all along his associate ID was correct and his link backs were correct while your's were useless, what a coincidence, huh?

Don't worry a replacement is on the way that you can have 100% of the profit of and sales from and all the pages for content.

• No munged keyword text.
• Use your site's style/HTML 100%.
• Only one link back, not hundreds or thousands.
• Public code completly commented.

Yes you can, all you have to do is use the existing table prefix or change it to your own unique table prefix so you can identify the FREEBS tables in that DB and you don't have table name conflicts.

FREEBS == Free Book Store.

How can someone who offers you free software, intended to increase your pagecount, be called such bad things? He's not a rip off since you didn't pay him for the privilege. He isn't a cheat; you don't have to play his game and use the software. He isn't a scammer; he gives you free software that works the way it's advertised.

The 50-50 split code error is found in an old version. Owlcroft brings out regular updates and is open to any feedback. I bet the thread starter, nor Noppid, has never had the courtesy to take the small effort of dropping Owlcroft a line.

I had a look and the error is still present in the latest download, frreebie.inc line 247 to 255:

I'm sure he will fix it quickly but still, this is not what the script is for. It's not meant to be an affiliate shop as such. It's meant generate lots of fresh content so you can have links from it or run the Co-op or just for the fact that SE's love big sites.

How dare you call someone who gives away 1000s of lines of code away for free a scammer.

 

I am not a coder and I know that there are some intelligent people involved in this discussion, what we need to do at this point is give Owlcroft time to answer these charges that are brought up here.

Until then it would be wrong for any of us to judge the matter

I called the guy and told him the software is basically crap designed around a good idea on the phone, but he know's it all. I was of no influence.

 

You bring up good points, he is an old time respected member here so we have to give him a chance to answer Noppid.

 

Eric has been extremely helpful helping me set up the bookshop and working to get new updates set up. I don't care about selling books, it's the pagecount that matters - like he says.

I'm willing to wait on the pages to show up. Just a matter of patience.

 

Bulldog, explain to us who are not using this why we should use it, just to create content for what?

I recently revamped my sites and no longer use the program but Google is still showing at least 4,000 pages from the bookshop.

Owlcroft has never been anything but helpful and I find it more than hard to believe that his intentions were anything but honorable. To post that he is a "Scammer" and a "Cheat" is not cool.

BTW, the negative rep that you just got that said, "Not Cool" was from me.

 

It is my understanding that google and other top se like BIG sites, hence this script increases the "volume" of your web site, also to me it seems a good median to improve my weight in the co-op

Dont argue ant. as I do not have the answers, purley trying to learn by experiment
