i don't think so, relevance back links are matter in SERP, if you created forums backlinks some time may you get bad response too!

I believe so, SEO-wise, forum posting is more beneficial compared to social bookmarking that just aims for backlinking.
Forum posting given the benefit of getting a backlink, it helps business and owners to build reputation and online presence.
However, it should be earned with hard work and how much value you contribute within the online community.
    It pays off though.

Forum posting is one of the good way to get backlinks and getting good traffic if you do not use spammy ways.

Social bookmarking sites that are reputable will be considered and forum sites that are related to your niche as well as authority sites. Promotions can be on different platforms such as blog sites, social media that suited your site, and active online communities that discusses your service or product.

Social bookmarking on FB was effective when there were not many Facebook users like it used to be several years ago. Nowadays people make their own content more frequently than ever, this morning post will soon get drowned under the flood of updates from your friends, relatives, pages you are following, etc.

Not sure with Twitter, but it is a good way to get traffic if your post is getting popular. But if it isn't --for instance if you do not maintain your Twitter account well and only have a handful of followers, I am not sure how this will increase your traffic or ranks.

Instagram is a good way for marketing, even if you do not have a website. To reverse this phrase: you do not need a website to promote your product via Instagram, and there are many people here in my country whom are using it to sell/buy goods (with no overhead cost of maintaining a website).

Pinterest allows you to share pictures, as a bait to your website. But when your picture is circulated, I am not sure if they will visit the source to read the article or if people are merely sharing the pictures for the pictures only. So, basically Pinterests are for people whom are fond of good looking pictures and circulating them.

G+ seems to me like the best way for social bookmarking, because when they visited your profile they want to know you and the links that you share. Much like Facebook years back.

Above all these, your signature on a forum post can easily get caught by people arriving on your posts --that is, if your post is considered useful by search engines and get indexed. And these links seems to last forever. A quick search can bring your 7 years old post back to current, compared to any social bookmark website mentioned above.

But this is only my personal view. Surely every one has different experience or opinion ...

Weblaunch hit the nail on the head with that comment. The only real value (that I have seen) from forum links is from users who value your content. Which brings me back to the thing I preach the most: Content is King.

Valuable content is a million times better than any amount of forum posts you might make. You're inbound link quality will be 100x better. Just my two cents.

I still see quite a bit of qualified traffic from StumbleUpon - Maybe it's just the niche I'm in? -- I also participate in forums in my niche such as my anime list and crunchyroll and see traffic from those too - so I would say both forum posting and social bookmarking are useful, depending on the audience and your niche.
