Is Forum Marketing Worth It?

I own a bodybuilding supplement line that I sell online and
am wondering if forum marketing would be worth my
time and effort. I'm talking about simply going to high
traffic forums like bodybuilding.com and providing lots
of value and then having a link to my FB page/website
    in my signature.

In your guys' experience, is forum marketing worth the
time and effort? If so, how much time daily would
you dedicate to it to see meaningful results?

    Thanks,

    Sean

It's worth it, but only if you're very active on a daily basis. Does that answer your question? What I mean is you need to be making at least 10 or more posts a day to get the traffic you want. Good luck! :)

In my experience, it's not worth the effort. To get a result, you have to literally spam forums with your product, which, in the long run, is going to have a negative impact on your reputation. Note: any marketing strategy, if too aggressive, brings results in the short term, but damages you in the long term (that's why the self-proclaimed marketing gurus try to sell their methods instead of using them).

It's definitely worth it if you do it right. If you spam thousands of forums you won't get anywhere. It you target specific high traffic forums you're a winner.

Yes it is worth it. It provides interested targeted traffic in your niche for free. And it also gets a chance to allow you to know your customers, what they expect, and you may even be able to make a few useful connections.

It is worth it if done correctly. I have had great success with forums and I have had some bad experiences. The key is to add value. I would go so far as not even plug your product until you become a trusted member. And lots of forums don't allow sigs, which kill some passive income.

    Good Luck

Of course. I was a member on a Porsche forum and vendors would participate and I've purchased items from their web sites.

Forums are good marketing prospects because it's easy to tell if a forum caters to your target segment or not. Niche forums attract that niche of people.

Yes it is well worth it!

I get lots of free, targeted traffic to my squeeze page and blog each day through forum signature links.

The idea is like you said though, always give good and valuable content at high traffic forums. That way lots of people will see you providing good value and sub-consciously think "this guy know his stuff" and naturally want to see what else you can offer on the subject. It's a great way to position yourself as an expert in your market. A market leader even.

Get yourself in those forums my friend and get yourself some additional business!

    All the best! :)

    Jamie

EDIT: Just a quick note, a great place to start in forums is the "Introductions" section. Usually this section is full of people who are knew to the subject and gives you a great opportunity to provide even the most basic information and help, whilst the newbies might not know such basics and take as "golden" information and instantly gives you a boost in their eyes!

    Go for it!

I think if you get into the right forums, and are genuine in the information and insights you provide, then it can reach some people.

I read a book recently about using forums to get offline marketing leads by becoming an expert within the forum of a specific forum. To me -- you'd have a lot of completion with other experts on a bodybuilding forum. Maybe you should try a sub niche to market your product within. You want to find people that don't anything about your niche and educate them. The best way to do forum posting is to use google to help you get notified of threads that fit within your field. Using google trends ( I think) allows you to get emails whenever someone mentions a keyword you select. At least that way you won't have to cruise the forum all day long every day instead you can do it only when the need comes. I hope this helps hun!

If handled correctly, forums can be very powerful. Be sure to build trust and not create a sig that links to your product until you have at least 75 posts and gained some trust as a "regular" member.
