    The landing page is google.
Imagine the dime per search you usually get while using Adsense, only that now millions of people are seeing it.

Officially, Mozilla is a non profit corporation (if I remember correctly), for various reasons. All of which I'm far too tired to get into.

In a nutshell to answer your question:

    Yes.

What about the search bar built into the browser? Do they make money off the Google/Amazon/Yahoo ... searches?

you said, are they making money? just opposite, google is paying adsense publishers to let thier visitors download firefox

Mozilla is official partner of Google and Google make a lot of money from well integrated search. <-- this is one thing.

Google toolbar comes optional with default download site and necessary with adsense referal. And most of people install it because its a Google product. After installing it generally user create google account if they dont have one. when they create account they become close to google services(these are profit making) and dont want other companies like yahoo and msn etc. to interfere.

And this is the reason that makes google pay per firefox download to Adsense publishers.

I had yahoo email earlier and i thought its best. but when I knew the power o google. I closed my yahoo ID officially.

Google is partnered with Mozilla and so yes Firefox does make them money. Just look at Youtube as an example.

Youtube is owned by google. Mozilla isn't. But yes i believe they still make money from google, hence google pays for those firefox signups.

What I meant was that Youtube used to get money from investors before Google stepped in. Those programmers were not working for the hell of it. ;)

I agree with the rest. It is like a sponsorship deal where Google pays to be part of the Firefox Browser.

Every time you search google, yahoo, etc. (top right corner) within firefox and click ads, mozilla gets money. I know they made $55 million in 2005 but I'm not sure how much they made last year. I think it's about $60 million.

Firefox earns money by search engines paying to be included.

I would imagine that Google pay the lion's share for being the default.
