    Depends on the Files uploaded to the site.
    If it is Copyrighted File it will be Illegal.

    The laws regarding filesharing / filehosting / creating backup copies are different in every country.
    To be on the safe side, check your local laws. :)

    And it was always illegal -- just now being better enforced.
