By "fake" I mean that it is not target audience. Just people who visit your site through direct URL or through EntreCard etc. Do we need traffic like that at all? Visitors like that don't click anything, but enter and leave. I think they are useless. P.S. I have no CPM ads running
In truth, someone who is looking for golf tips won't be too interested in a website on jewellery at that point in time. So yes, it wouldn't be that effective Fabian
I would say that you should look for quality of traffic, not quantity. If you're trying to sell something then it is very important. But then again not a lot of people click ads. I would suggest targeting an audience. That should be better. I call it the "sniper strategy". lol And the other one is a "shotgun strategy". That should explain a bit.
Definitely go for quality over quantity. In the short time I've been doing this, that is one of the most important things I've learned. Non-targeted traffic will never convert!
Agreed with the above poster, quality above quantity. My most profiting website recieves less traffic that a couple of my others, but makes twice as much because it doesn't have any junk traffic like the others do.
I think the correct term would be untargeted traffic. Fake traffic is essentialy non human generated traffic from hitbots, etc. Untargeted traffic is better then no traffic. While they are not likely to click on ads or buy products, a very small percentage will. I have parked domains with untargeted traffic and those visitors to click on general ads. But if you are going to purchase advertising make sure it is targeted.
There is a lot of traffic similar to the traffic you are speaking of including Stumble Upon and many other social bookmarking type sites. The main advantage of these is that it increases your stats. Often times people wanting to advertise on your site will want to know how many visitors there are. The more you have the better price they are willing to pay. This is the only advantage I can find of such traffic. Of course a smart and informed advertiser will want to know where your traffic is coming from and see the stats. Except for the above case I mentioned, the only thing such traffic does for you is increase your bandwidth usage. It also strokes your ego a bit by making you think people are flocking to your site.
I agree, the only thing paid traffic can result in in bloated stats. The only time such stats are worth anything is when you are selling a site. Other then that, it's just a waste of bandwidth. I guess it also can give bragging rights, but heh, if anyone finds out you'd be labeled as a liar or worse.
Oh, thank you for all your replies (so many untill I got home) This question appeared when I've noticed that there are a lot of ways and places to get "untargeted" traffic so I was wondering what is so good in that. seems it is good just for thse who sells site or runs CPMs. Even if you run CPM and you pay for traffic I don't think you will earn much, but still a lot of sell/buy traffic. See no rational point here...
Driving random traffic to Squidoo lenses can increase their rankings. Lots of traffic on a ezinearticles.com article can propel it to the "top 15" in a category which is listed under every article. With both ezine and Squidoo, if you can get ranked, you will get the kind of targeted traffic you're looking for. So, anytime you have an site where an outside measurement is useful to attracting more targeted traffic, getting untargeted traffic cheaply can help you with your goals in the long run.
targeted traffic is what you want. you may get a bite or two with untargeted traffic however it wont be much.
to answer your original question, the answer is yes if: 1. you simply want exposure (want to build a brand) 2. you want to artificially boost your number of visitors
Is it a good thing? Not really. It really won't help your site significantly. It does help your statistics, but good statistics that don't make you money is pointless. But it isn't a bad thing either. Untargeted traffic is better than no traffic at all. I wouldn't spend any time getting it, but if it is coming without you doing any work than that is probably a good thing.
Good ideas. Untargeted traffic is great when you are just trying to increase rankings but if you are looking to make sales, get subscribers, then invest in high quality traffic. It might seem more expensive at first but it will be more than worth it in the end
It's good only if you have CPM advertisers or for some reason you want to boost your Alexa rank. Otherwise non targeted traffic is just a waste of bandwidth.
*shrugs shoulders* I would think that if they click on your ad or link, they are interested, or, at the very least, curious. I'll take 'em.
