so far, I think facebook is not the only social network for business. But the other ones are indeed pretty weak compared to facebook.

Like others I will also suggest Twitter, Linked-In & G+ to be given priority along with FB, but one thing which I feel regarding G+ is, it should not be ignored in any way, because don't forget that it's Google's own product, I tried to promote my own name in Google & got success within a span of just 1 month, definitely it's a new platform & it will take time to do something out of the box, so to promote anything I would prefer all, i.e.; G+, FB, Twitter & Linkedin. :)

Not really, but it can help you in many way also. Especially in branding your market. Competitors? Hmm. Many Social Networking sites may compete against Facebook. Some of them are: Google+, Twitter, LinkedIN etc. Try other ones and manually check what are their differences.

Linkedin can be very good for business as well. Especially if you can find groups in your niche.

I think people are so tied up in Facebook-think that many of the basic fundamentals of being seen online have been forgotten at a time when they're easier than ever to reach. You need a website, and a blog site. The blog site updates regularly, that is, if you make a blog post. Twitter should be used as a place to essentially provide a link back to your blog, which in turn is linked to your website. THEN you can have that Facebook page and ads. But to rely on Facebook alone is an incomplete web strategy.

facebook is great for marketing but you have to look at what you are marketing... For example, if you are marketing a "serious" product about anything other than some viral video or something that makes people laugh, then you will probably not get good hits from the facebook crowd. People are on facebook to look and laugh at their friends, not to buy things or learn about stuff. I think recently JCPenny totally deleted their E-commerce platform from facebook because they were getting absolutely no sales from it. I predict alot more businesses will be doing the same in the future as well. Because of the type of traffic that facebook has, it will never be that great for business advertising, you will have a better chance at using Google adwords because at least people search to find stuff on Google, not just to look at their friends and other random people when they are bored.
