Is facebook magic, or just creapy?

    Ok, I'm very late to facebook. Finally today I decided to join.

    I enter my name, email, and birth date.

    The next step facebook presents a list of people I 'may know'. More than half of the people I know, how on earth does facebook know who I know since I have never even been on their system before?

    My guess is that those people have already entered you at some stage as a contact or friend using your email address...and Facebook recognised this immediately when you entered these details and matched you up with those people that had entered your details previously. It is a bit spooky when this happens I agree...

    it is just because of that you gave them an Email id (yours) where you have your contacts they used some of the contacts from there which you know

    I'm pretty sure it's more than just knowing your email address. For example, just today... The mom of a girl I dated some years ago showed up on "people you may know". Her mom wouldn't even know my email address (probably doesn't even remember my name) and we have no mutual friends. It's definitely pretty smart.
