you cannot compare facebook with google. facebook is just like myspace. facebook haven't win myspace.. why would they talk about comparing with the giant google?
Facebook competing with Google? No. But, it's a goldmine for advertisers. Even though it doesn't have as many members as MySpace, there was a recent study showing that upper / upper-middle class people use it while high school kids not going to college use MySpace.
I don't think they are actually direct competitors. So I'd say no. This is like asking will www.swollenpickles.com be a threat to www.yahoo.com
i have a hotel and i have free internet access in the lobby.facebook is not so popular in greece but 90% of the people at least use it and that percent exceed even g searches among other search engines!G will buy it i guess.....
Well facebook are actually working on an internet based OS so yes they are a threat to google. Plus facebook turned down like a billion dollars from yahoo a while ago so they cannot be bought cheap*
i wish all of those social networking sites eg facebook, myspace and so on would just go away!. they are just spam machines.
I don't see a reason why a social networking site could be a threat to google. StumbleUpon on the other hand could be. StumbleUpon pretty much weeds out all of the crappy search engine results that are mostly paid and gives out results that are user approved.
Facebook isn't a competitor to google on the social networking scene. Google backed myspace, yahoo tried to buy facebook and I believe msn has signed up facebook to be their advertising partner. It is a battle of the 3 search engines looking to secure the search volume provided by the community of users on various social networking sites - it isn't a search engine competitor. However, facebook are in the process of a lawsuit aimed against the founder but it still drives more traffic to both connectu.com and facebook.com as the lawsuit gets taken further. Social network sites are not direct competitors to search engines although if they can be managed correctly then they could become a very lucrative source of search traffic volume that can give search engines an extra % or 2 of monthly search volume and therefore help raise profit forecasts and shareprice etc.
