Is ENOM stealing domains?

    Hi everyone,

I am very frustrated right now. I found 2 nice domains which showed as being available through Namecheap, however, I when clicked submit at checkout there was an error. It gave me a message saying that there was an error and reversed the charge.

Ok, so I thought maybe it was a credit card processing error. So I go to checkout again, and now it tells me that the 2 domains have been registered by someone else. When I checked the whois info, it showed ENOM as the registrant. And guess what...the creation date for both domains showed up as today. Coincidence, I dont think so! As far as I'm concerned, this company has committed fraud against me, but sadly there's nothing I can do about it.

You can check for yourself. The 2 domains I tried registering today are: lendingleague.com and seasonedsites.com. They have the same landing page!! Gee, I wonder why???!!!

Anyone else have any issues like this?

Not sure if it was a computer glitch or something shady. In any case, my issue has been resolved by Namecheap.

Here is the message I received from them:

Glad to hear you got your domains back. That sounds very shady indeed. Personally, I have had no problem with Enom I found them to be one of the better registrars.

I've seen this happen once in a blue moon.

When a registrar's systems experiences problems registering the domain name
yet is successful, usually they put it in some kind of "holding" account bearing
their contact details. They then wait for whoever made the order to contact
them and provide some information to possibly resolve the issue.

Next time you might want to try to resolve the issue with the registrar (or the
reseller in this case) first before jumping to premature conclusions.

Still, I too am glad to see your problem's been fixed.

You were regitering the domains on NameCheap right? So how did they get registered by eNom in the first place?

    Namecheap is an Enom reseller.

Ohh I see, I never knew man! Considering their popularity, I had a general guess that they were a real registrar.

Incidentally Namecheap's CEO posted in another forum they've already bought
an ICANN-accredited registrar and are working on making their systems work
with it. No ETA yet since it's potentially complex, as you can imagine.

I see, wow thats pretty cool of them. Would that mean we'd get all our domains transferred from "eNom" to the new NameCheap registrar then?

I meant the ones that we registered through NameCheap, will they be transferred to the new Namecheap's ICANN account when its made and is fully functional?

Can a moderator remove this post? I'd hate to give ENOM or Namecheap a bad rep over a system malfunction.

    Thanks,
    Steve
