It must be permission marketing and best used with 3rd party opt-in and un-subscribe options etc etc

No, never had any success. Issue is the stigma associated with spams. Spammers made it such that every single email is viewed as spams and frankly I do not blame anyone for being hostile to the emailers given the massive amount of spams received. I typically receive nearly a thousand spams from my few accounts despite spam protection.

I think we can forget about email marketing

I second that. I didn't even look into it. We are bombared with so much shit every day, even good products get flagged as spam before even given a chance.

    I think that's a shame.

Oh well, fuck it. What can ya do.

It works for me on a small level. I have an Opt-in "ONLY" once per month newsletter that currently has 460+ Subscribers.

The newsletter was created mainly for providing: Updates, Member info, Product reviews, Discounts, Marketing Articles, Etc....

It's a Great Customer Repeat / Retention tool.

I think you just need to focus more on permission before submission.. :)

Yeah, I think there's a negative feeling toward email marketers. I'd be very cautious about it.

With the increasing amount of emails average folks get in their mailbox every day, it is clear that email marketing days are numbered. It is getting more and more difficult to get some results from it even for subscription-based campaigns.

not only that, but most companies own servers just for the sake of snagging spam and newsletters before it hits their employees' computers.

Email marketing works, and works well.

Establishing a regular newsletter to send to your customers/subscribers is a great way of increasing sales and enhancing your relationship.

Use a service like Constant Contact as they ensure delivery (they work out deals with all the major ISP's) and have great reporting tools.

DO NOT buy a list and "market" to those emails, it's a one way ticket to karma hell and possibly prison/large federal fines.

I agree, as I stated above I use a Newsletter for Customer Repeat / Retention purposes myself. However I don't spend money on a service to send it for me. I own the paid version Of GroupMail software & control all aspects of my newsletter at all times without any 3rd party headaches or invoices.

We each have our own system of doing things, I just like having more control over my newsletter & lists. Besides, I have seen too many paid newsletter company's take your subscribers list e-mails (That have a privacy policy) & resell them in bulk through another outlet.

By doing it all here with my own software I can stay true to my privacy policy without any 3rd party worries...

    Hi All,

email marketing is one of the most powerful marketing
tools that there is and it is virtually free!

when i meet clients and do my consultancy i can guarantee
that no one is using email to its full potential.

to me there are 2 differences:

    1. email communication
    2. email marketing

    1. Email Communication

most of us send emails in a flash without thinking through the
process and the time to build a relationship with the prospect
    or customer.

ie. a customer emails to make an enquiry.

dont just email $10 or special $5 take time find out their needs
show them the benefits build a relationship - do this and i
guarantee that you will see a difference in converting quotations
    from email to orders!

    2. Email Marketing.

as long as your prospects have "opted in" then they will accept
    your email.

the secret to getting them to opt in is capturing their data.

everyone within your company should be trained so that when
a customer makes an enquiry by telephone, email or any other
way they need to take their details.

you can then devise a data base to contact your customer.

you can also pay for data base and marketing information
where companies or individuals have opted in and allowed
their information to be used. this is a good way of obtaining
really decent prospects but make sure that the list you buy
is "clensed" - everyone has opted in, no people that dont want
    contacted etc...

dont just hit them with your offer, again; build a relationship.

give them free tips advice become a friend and do this via newsletter.

get a professional informative newsletter sent to all your customers
or prospects who have bought from you or opted in.

again do the above and watch your profits and customer base
    bulge.

    hope this helps.

    regards
    stephen doyle

If you use a service like aweber and you ask them to fill in their name, email and maybe even their phonenumber there should not be a problem. They have to confirm their subscription to your mailinglist.

I use Feedburner to manage my email newsletter. It is free and they do all the work of making sure the emails get delivered.

It is a nice tool to keep in touch with your users. But as everyone else stated, you must use an opt-in approach, else you'll get flagged as a spammer... and piss a bunch of people off.

I think that newsletters, mailing lists and promotional "reminder" pieces are a good way to keep customers coming back. However, for those of you that use gmail you'll note that they keep the "crap" email out extremely effectively.

Sockmonkey - aye feedburner is a great tool.

Having angry recievers is only one of the problems you'll run into. The other problem is that you'll get flagged as a spammer by all the major ISP's...when that happens your emails automatically end up in the Junk folder when you send them out.

You must have permission to email people (use double-opt in), and only deliver what you say you will deliver to them. So if you promise to provide information on Topic A, but then the emails you do send is actually sales text pushing Product B, then you'll have major issues.

If done right though, email marketing can do wonders for you.

Christian Little said everything. Email marketing can work perfectly if you know what you are doing, but if you don't than you'll get flagged as a spammer.

I already had excellent email marketing campaigns and some not so good, so the "trick" is to choose the right product to sell on the right place but always using double-opt in...

Email marketing should be called "Build a Relationship with your prospects and customers through email marketing" simply because it WON'T do to email a list of cold database contacts and not excpect any SPAM reports.

Get Aweber and some contacts of your own - these will spend money ;)

    Believe me

Email marketing, used as tool in right ethics can make a fortune. People buying email lists and sending them bulk mails will not only get you backfire, but in some countries you may need to pay a heavy price.

I strongly recommend to use Email Marketing as a follow up tool. And Follow up to only your opt-in list. Here is one of my article about it, http://www.gnaka.com/affiliate-marketing/fortune-is-in-the-follow-up

If you have built a strong relationship with your list... then e-mail marketing can make you tons of money! Just make sure to approach them the right way. Always try to help them solve a problem and do it with a lot of heart.

People respond a lot better when you've included a story in your e-mail, so try that out.

    Cheers,
    Nick

If you collect emails from your website via a "join our newsletter" or via a contest etc...Does anyone get a decent response from email campaigns for this type of scenario. Or do you still get people staying..stop spamming me even though they gave you their email address.
