yeah, we did, but I don't support pure socialism. I support a free market economy with some regulation (not a purely laissez-faire). But I also think some goods and services should be available to everyone

Yeah, sorry. I didn't mean to mis-attribute your position.

it seems not many people consider this issue important :( . Better start a new thread about muslims or jews, that is likely to get more attention

iul, we should come up with our own governmental system, write a book about it and become famous.

What do you think? It might be good to have two people with different perspectives and backgrounds work on this. :)

Paying taxes is a good thing, roads have been built, our children are being educated, we give thousands new jobs, we offer security for our country... now, to what degree on those things is debatable. But just realize that without a tax system none of it would ever exist.

Look at 3rd world countries... we would probably be even worse off.

Are 3rd world countries 3rd world because they have corrupt government, and no effective legal system, or is it because people are too poor to pay taxes and subsidize upward mobility?

Paying taxes as user fees is ok with me. Paying taxes on consumption might even be ok with me if it is a uniform tax (no penalty for buying wine over say, beer). Contributions to the government should not be mandatory for services you do not use, or do not approve of.

The reason why people in say Switzerland or the US are allowed to have weapons, is that we are supposed to provide for our own defense, and in times of trouble common defense with our neighbors. This doesn't negate law enforcement, but law enforcement should not be the first line (IMO) of defense. Common sense, good judgment, being capable of defending oneself will help someone in trouble much quicker than waiting for the police to show up, or for the military to mobilize.
