Is ebook marketing dead?

I would like to hear from ebook marketers who have experience in this field. Is ebook marketing dead or dying, or is it still a viable means of making money online?

It's not dead as long as you are writing books that people want to read.

If you are churning out crap, in the hopes you can sucker some idiot into buying it... well... that's not going to be viable in the long term for *any* product/industry.

The reason I ask this question is because I have purchased many ebooks as well as downloaded many free (opt-in list) ebooks. Some where good and some where crap, but the thing I have started to notice lately is that many many many of them are the same re-hashed strategies over and over. It just seems like people are redistributing the same stuff over and over. When people do that (in any industry) it becomes a jaded and less highly regarded method.

Let me guess, you are referring to "get rich quick" eBooks? lol eBooks themselves have nothing to do with "methods" or "strategies" necessarily... Either way, by the time someone writes a book about their "secrets" (for any industry) it's because whatever they are don't work that well any longer.

The major problem we face is that there are no more new stunning discoveries like discovery of TV. So what option do people have? They go to what they know and have and hence the rehashing business of eBooks. But if one gets creative enough, there will always be a market for eBooks as long as there is human race.

Nope. I have nothing to do with the "get-rich-quick" crap. Been there - done that - bought the stupid tee-shirt. I already know that is a dead-end and I will have nothing to do with it. I'm currently writing an ebook based on my experiences (successes and failures) with list building tactics (all white-hat). I emphasize in my ebook that the only way to make it in the marketing world is through WORK, focus, and dedication. I just don't want to waste a lot of time and effort if no one is interested.

There so much noise out there on the internet now days, and to really stand out you need to offer something substantial and unique. Even Free now has to be good value.

Not hardly. If Kindle books are outselling print books on Amazon, ebook marketing is surely not dead. I think what you need to do is learn about marketing from an author's point of view-not someone who's background is in Internet Marketing or writes about it. Granted, they may say some of the same things, but there are other avenues of selling books other than just a website. Did you know that you can sell ebooks through public libraries? Did you know that you can piggyback your ebook on a companies website? That's just a couple of things I didn't learn from Internet marketers.

An eBook is no different than a "normal" book. It really doesn't matter what you write about, if it's interesting and well written, people will want to read it. Asking "Is eBook marketing is dead?" is the same as asking if books are dead.

Again... if you think eBooks are dead, you should check out Amazon or Apple's eBook stores.

It's not dead actually, but the importance is gone from ebooks to somewhere other. You can still have the ebook marketing.

You like to make assumptions, don't you. You assumed I was talking about "get rich quick" ebooks, and now you assume that I already believe ebooks are dead. All I did was ask a valid question. I don't assume anything, I just ask questions to get other's opinions.

It might be dead but you can resurrect it. The success of ebook marketing depends on the content of the ebooks and how you promote it. Many elite publisher still give away ebook on routine basis to maintain the number of readers or fans. So what are you waiting, write one new ebook today.

Or better still, outsource the ebook. Tape yourself talking to provide the value then have someone else make the information into a consumable ebook :)
