i'm using dreamhost for six month and i'm happy with them. i had problem with them only one time nearly 4 months ago. reason was down time but they are so well for last 5 months
Usually all I hear are positive things about DreamHost. This thread is full of negative! Have they gone down in performance!?
http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/ Some downtimes are long, some are short. But I'd ESTIMATE a problem a week, especially the last year - few months ago. Other hosts have preventative measures so these don't even happen. I like almost 24/7 uptime, and Dreamhost DOES NOT deliver.
dreamhost is good, i've been on it for 2 years + . If you run small operations then you will be fine: They are rarely very slow.
True, just make sure you do not host anything which is business-related or else you might be losing customers and reputation because of downtimes. Hobby sites are fine especially when uptime is not the top of priorities.
Most companies like this oversell, including dreamhost, bluehost, etc. A lot of the big companies oversell and that's how they got to where they are.
I've been using Dreamhost for about 5 months now. I've been generally happy with their service, though I miss having cPanel sometimes. One of their perks is if you use them to register domains they'll automatically proxy all mail to the domain and cloak your personal information. DH is now my primary Linux hosting platform, though I maintain others just to have a diversity of IPs to host from and to cover myself in case of an outage...
I've been reading mostly bad for months, so I rewrote my plans around HostGator instead Hey, everybody keeps saying "upsell" and it bothers me. Isn't upselling what McDonald's and GoDaddy do when they suggest that you order more than you originally thought you wanted? I think we need to come up with something else to call this. May no one forget!
I have been with them since the end of august. They had some trouble in the past and my site has only been down for a max of 5 hours once. Their response time is usually under 2 hours, somtimes longer since they have hundreds of thousands of customers apparently. they have an article on their site saying how only a few customers actually use all that space and bandwith. So yes they are for real.
HostGator is pretty expensive for bigger plans, I would say insanely expensive. But that hosting is really great, almost all my sites are with them, they almost dont have downtime ever
