I'm looking for a good host where I can host multiple domains on the one account. Quite a few people have suggested http://www.dreamhost.com/ but are they really that good? Thanks.
Yeah man, i've been using it for a few months now, and its really good. It takes some time to get used to their "non cpanel" admin controls. And they do have some downtime, but the features you get make it well worth it -- even if its just while your site gets popular before you can afford your own dedecated server. p.s if your thinking of getting it -- make sure you find someone offering the full $97 discount. Cheers.
I heard alot about Dreamhost. But just to make sure i checked and read few reviews. Overall they are good. But the tech support is slow And i found this - Use Coupon Code "50BUCKSOFFTODAY" to get $50 off your Dreamhost order I am not sure whether it is still valid or not But you can always try. the up time is good, but the speed seems to be a problem. To know how PROFESSIONAL they are you can read their official blog - blog.dreamhost.com Hope this helps Regards Black_hand
Ok thanks guys, not sure about them now...what would you say is the best shared host, but say no more than 7.50 per month?
Seriously mate -- try them. I'm not offering you any discount code or anything, so its not like im pushing you into them for a reason. They are just really good for the money. Have you read their specs for what you get? If you can do things yourself, and you can learn new admin control panels ok -- you will not need to contact support. (i've contacted them once, and i was happy with the response time) They also have a http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/ -- and most of the time, any problems your having, are on here, check out this site and see how long it takes them to fix most things -- if you can live with the avarage downtime shown on that site, it should be ok) Alot of the reviews are by people who expect 100% uptime and instant replys -- people who want more then what they were trying to pay for. edit: p.s if you do decide to go with them, that $50 discount is not the full $97 discount you can get -- do not settle for less then the full discount
It depends what kind of site you have. If you have a site that uses mysql, etc...it will load slow. If you are just using it to host files then you should be fine. Recently they have been having a lot of downtime.
I've had SOME downtime lately, but it's really good overall. The support is also great, just select the "omfg i cant access the site people are dying!!!!!11" and you'll get a faster response. The best thing about it is the fact you can host unlimited domains, I host about 10 domains lol.
To answer your question, No. Any host that so openly mocks the intelligence of a client by overselling bucketloads of resources is not good.
I am pretty happy with dreamhost. The control panel is very easy to learn (for all of you cpanel lovers) and the diskspace/bandwidth they provide is great. I'm in the process of moving to a dedicated server (which I'm sharing costs with some friends) for more speed. In short, I recommend dreamhost.
I would NEVER EVER point anyone in DH direction. They will promise you the world and when you start to take a piece of what they offered they will either limit you or give you the boot. Moving sites from DH to a reg Cpanel server is HELL. But with each his own...Its just my opinion. PGZ
Giant Oversell alert! The opinion is hugely mixed. Some excellent stories, and some poor stories. I guess you'll just have to come with your own opinion depending on everything you've read... as always
Id say no, this is due to the porpularity on the site, therefore alot of people will be sharing your ip, which is not a good thing
I would say no, Dreamhost is no longer a good host. Lately, they have had many downtime and performance issues. Just a week ago, my website was down for a period of over 24 hours. My email regularly goes down. Check out dreamhoststatus.com, Dreamhost's emergency status page, and you'll find out all you need to know. Dreamhost also has slow support (over 24 hour response time for critical issues) and a proprietory control panel that makes backing up MYSQL databases hard (you must use a cron job). Do yourself a favor in the long run and stay away from DH. I got a year for $10 using a coupon, but I now wished I had never put my website there.
