I hope this is not a naive question, but I was browsing through a section of dmoz and noticed that there were a number of entries that were links to a specific page of websites, where the whole website was just a general one and the single page that was "dmoz-ed" was basically a one page html article on a specific topic So does this mean that dmoz is fine with rewarding a dmoz entry for a single page of a website? Should we try writing a one page article on some topic, make a page on our website somewhere for it, and then submit that page to dmoz?
Deep links are NOT the norm (unless you are a senior editor and have your pages automatically listed) though they do happen. A GREAT article on any page that helps accent a category can find itself listed... Though, if you write a bunch of articles and put them on your site, then submit them all, you'll find you have a better chance of getting listed as a spammer and having your entire site removed then having a bunch of deep links.
thank you for the nice reply The reason I noticed is because a major competitor of mine that seems to have friends in the right places (noticed he got a few listings on dmoz within a month or two of buying a certain website), has a page listed on dmoz that is a very vaguely related topic to the rest of his website, but that deeplink is on dmoz looking at it, he basically wrote a 10 paragraph article that seems to fit a dmoz category, slapped up an html page buried on his site somewhere, and got that page listed on dmoz and I was wondering if that is something I should put my creative efforts and time into as well with hopes to get into dmoz (I shouldn't be paranoid but I always fear that his connections may have helped him more than the quality of the article though)
Well, you can certainly try it. The smaller categories seem to have a better success rate...though, again, there are risks. Quality content is likely the key if you are not an editor or do not know one, so be sure it's the best of the best and ALL original.
