Is directory submission useful?

    I found that there are so many directories there. I don't believe those dorecties can bring you much traffic as nobody would go to surf those small directories. Currently, most of people only look at Yahoo, google, dmoz, etc. those large directries or searching engines. The only benefit of directory submission is to give some backlinks. Am I correct?

    Your are right thaa they dont' get you traffic(but some do!) Mostly people use them for backlinks to help there PR.

    But sometimes they sell thier databases and that will give you even more pr and links .
    that happened with me .

    One directory I submitted to sends a few uniques per day. It's a directory that rates sites. :)

    People never browse web directories to find documents whether this is my directory, montux directory, yahoo and dmoz :)

    Submit your site to directories and get more inbound links and anchor text to your website, thats good for SERPS

    I didn't mean my directory is providing a lot of traffic or people searching my directory to find Docs Dude..I Was just showing that they are providing few traffic and a backlink that's why it is useful :)

    I took your directory example because youre the poster above me, it could have been deluxdon or other... Sorry if it offends you, wasnt meant that way.
    But thats true, nobody browse DMOZ nor Yahoo like people uses search engines, in fact directories are not that great for search...

    Yes, sometime I do get traffic for directories. In fact, I sometime visit directories to find more info on some topics so I am sure that others will also be doing the same thing.

    They are only meant for backlinks...some form create a network of own directories so as to have as many backlinks as possible...also they can be used for selling links...

    Well not as much as you think it is, why using directories if there is search engines? The only directory i browse when i need to look for info is the yahoo directory, i browse it to get ideas for creating cats for my directories, and to see what kind of vietnam companies there is on the web...
    Well the people that browses directory also browse it to take a look at their listings lol:D
