I m very confused, should I add my website in the directories for one-way backlinks or not? Is directory still valuable for backlinks? Please help me.
some directories carry a lot of weight. there are som many others that dont hurt submitting to. somethimes any help is a big help depending on competition. it doesn't do you any harm that for sure
Its always suggested to avoid directories which are not active and are not well categories crosscheck before you put your information.
I will suggest to get listed in niche directories with keyword rich title will benefits you to drive some traffic & getting back links.
Link is a link. Directory submission is not that bad as people are saying. I am still seeing result on my website with directory submission. Think if you want to have 3k links how much article submission, bookmarking, blogging etc you will do. At the end of they you need to use directories also. Only suggestion is dont do in bulk and use proper category to gain max. output

It depends on where you will submit your site. There are valuable directories on the web where you can submit your site to build one-way link, but there are also tons of crap directories that would not give any benefit to your site.

It's certainly worth submitting to DMOZ and the Yahoo Business Directory. The more incoming links you have to your website, such as can be obtained through directory submissions and other link building strategies, the better. By increasing your global link popularity you are increasing the frequency by which search engine robots access your website, thus increasing your websites visibility to the search engines. So i still regard it as a great way to do SEO.
Good link building is not about the numbers but rather having links in context that helps Google work out what keywords your site is relevant for. Because of that directory links arent great as typically you have very few words surrounding the link and usually no anchor text. However thats not to say they arent of some value and link should be obtained vi alots of different sources so the link building appears natural i.e. having links from directories, blogs, relevant websites, news sources etc is better that just relying on one kind of link only i.e. just directories or just blogs.
As others have mentioned, if you put your chosen keywords into your anchor text, this will help your rankings for them, even if the directory is not highly ranked. Sure, it doesn't help much, but if you keep doing this from time to time you'll see a slow improvement. Also, I wouldn't mass submit them. Just do them yourself every now and then along with other link building methods.
