    Hi all,

I have been submitting to directories for the past 6 days but surprisingly there is no backlink increased at all to my site.

Is it to take a while before I can see the result or this method is no longer valid?

Can you share your thought with me?

    Puzzle
p/s I posted my submission process and results here for your reference.

6 days is too soon to see the backlinks. Article directory links also need time to mature. I wouldn t consider it dead, however I wouldn t rely completely in using only this technique. Try to submit to quality directories, doing the regular checkups such as checking the PR, how often google crawls the directory.

You need patience, wait for 6 weeks or months, not 6 days. Don't spend too much time on submitting to directories, very few are worth the time and effort.

Directories are a dying form of link building, try blog commenting and forum posting as an alternative. Also work on article marketing for a long term strategy.

Six days seems like a short amount of time for your links to get indexed. I don't think you should be surprised if you have to wait 4-6 weeks for your links to show. I don't think directories are cached very quickly because they are losing their importance. Who uses them anyway? Just marketers and companies trying to get links, but do you know anyone who ever used a directory instead of say, Google for a search? I think your time is probably better spent elsewhere.

Most Web Directories take more than 6 days to approve your links. You wont get any backlinks until your link has been approved! It will take weeks, possibly months.

Directory submission is not dead as yet but it will be in the near future google
has devalued backlinks from most directories, you will get some results from
the backlinks you gain from the directories but it will take longer than 6 days.

directory submission is not dead yet and they still count as backlinks. however, dont expect to get any backlinks ofrm it in 6 days. wait for like 6 months or so as your link on the directories are not in the main pages but burried way down deep which takes search engines time to find and follow. however, lot of directory links dont provide any value except the good ones

It is not dead, SE counts these back links also, but it takes some review for getting back link.

No Directory Submission is Not Dead. But the time which you said it's really very soon. Please carefully read the guide line of the directory they clearly mention Free link need some tiem to be approved. It's fully depend on the directory owner. Wate patiently you will defenitely get result. Link build is not any Magic so you have to wate.

I do a fair amount of directory submissions and I have yet to see whether I have gained anything from it to be perfectly honest, I do alot of forum work too, which is always good as you can see the link straight away and can check if its a nofollow.

Thanks all for your kind feedback here. From these posts, I summarized the keypoints as follow:

    1. Due to the nature of free directories, it will take weeks or months before Google or Yahoo index them and find my submission.
    2. Most members believe directory submission is still effective for link building but it is not the faster and effective way (in fact this is probably the slowest way to build link).
    3. Most members felt it is better to spend time else way instead of directory submission.

Is that correct? Thanks again all the feedback.

p/s I also found an excuse for myself to take a day off after 6 days of non stop dir submission. ;p

There are far more effective ways of gaining links than directory submissions, forum/blog posts for instance, but that said, it doesn't hurt to submit to directories.

It's not dead in terms of link value. The problem is, most of the directories don't have any kind of link juice to pass. All are PR0, with no backlinks and no quality manual review, effectively making them link farms.

I would say that yes, directory submissions are still effective in link building, although the impact is minimal, but it’s there nonetheless. I still have my sites that continue to rank pretty well for terms that I target through directory submissions, and I know that for a fact since there’s nothing else that I do for them at the moment.
So, I’d definitely say for the money involved it definitely is a worthwhile effort…

    Hi,

Not only submission work will help you.

There are lots of condition like pages in which you submitted your links are cached or not.

If pages are cached then after approval it will take time till boat reach there.

Once boats will cached those pages and found your links there then BL will show.

For response from directories you have to wait at least one month and mainly in case of free submission.

    Thanks
    Manual Submission Team :)

Quality Back Links are always valued.
6 Days is very short, some dir accept links between 2months to 6months.

Another best and fast way is submitting URL at Social networks.

I have voted in favor of directory submission, as i am myself witness of benefits, i have six sites which are ranging from pr2 to pr4 and all got PR with only dir. submissions.

It is a must do strategy for me.
