I have developed a script based on shaadi, jeevansathi or bhratmatrimony's basics features. Basically took ideas from these sites. Though these sites are all similar. We are not using their any graphics or layout or code - any code not even js. Today I got a response from a DP member, he is saying.. His message: ME: His message: Could DP members clarify this. if we look at freelance sites, thousands are sites are being cloned. Then why my code is not legal?
It is illegal to clone trademarks or other sites code. However, designing a java applet for instance that does the same exact things like some other applet is certainly not illegal. As long as you do not copy somebody others work you will be fine. Ideas are not patented.

Since as per you it is not legal. You may not like a clone, that's upto you. But why my script is illegal... or fraud...
well cloning can be legal and u shouldnt do it under any circumstances (being that ur a US resident) and other times cloning isnt as dangerous, say if u live in a country that has lesser legal actions that are taken for copyright infringement. All websites I've heard are automatically copyrighted as a part of some new US LAW (i dont know the exact code for it) so if ur living outside the US and the website that ur cloning isnt a website owned by a citizen of the US, then u may be ok, otherwise take precaution as necessary
Never heard that taking overall ideas from a site can be illegal. Code is different, architecture is different. That means if I develop a mailing solution then all email providers like yahoo, gmail will sue me! ohh... hotmail should sue yahoo, rediff, gmail and others who came in the market later.
