I want to start a tech blog and, though I've got a bunch of names, I'm wondering if Crunchable is an awesome marketing point, or if people will think it's too much of a rip-off of techcrunch and Mashable and maybe view it as inferior.

    Opinions welcome :)

    Why copy someone?
Be creative on your own niche, i had a client who registered min.us for an image hosting site :)
Copying tars your rep in the longer run.

I partially agree but I just really think the name is cool. It kind-of implies a mix of the two sites, and since a technology news site is exactly what I want to go for people might already associate positive feelings with the name.

That name sounds way far better than crunchable, which sounds like the right name to drive confused traffic from mashable, usual tactic that quick buck chasers put into practice.

If you want to develop a website while being creative, you can still come up with an even better or unique name.

the -able names work well, if the prefix makes sense. there is a new company called Spreadable for example (www.spreadable.com) that works well for them. Crunchable would still be a good domain, maybe for a service for crunching stats, or something. but probably too close to mashable and tech crunch to cover the same topics.

Yeah, it specifically would cover the same topics because my life revolves around electronics, technology, modding, engineering, web app development, and the business / product lifecycle that a lot of these things go through. I write a lot of papers and keep video / picture archives of my work, so it really needs a home. Add in personal interpretations of the implications of any new tech or news and you've got a full site. So far I can't even figure out how to run out of things to write about and am overloaded with so many articles that I may need to outsource some writing.

Another site name I was thinking of using was Modblog.com, however does that seems like it might be too focused on "Modding"?
