I'm just getting my feet wet in web site marketing. It's hard work. Is this the general consensus here: If you build tons of pages, they will come? I've been writing about 100 article pages, and haven't seen the rewards yet. (It's been about 2 months.) Am I doing something wrong, or should I wait a little because it's still early? My goal is to average 200 visitors per day in the next 2 months. I have get about 15/day now. Would a 100 article site be sufficient? Of course, I'm not doing this for Adsense but for my own passion. It gets a little frustrating though if you can't share it with the world. Any help is greatly appreciated
Welcome to DP sjusc. To answer your question easily I would suggest working on a blend of on and off page together. Content is important but you need visitors to read it. So I would work on backlinking and content in sync. They are both equally important IMHO. Good luck!
Hi Homer! Thank you so much. I'm still new to the whole SEO lingo. For backlinking, you mean one-way links to your site (or reciprocal linking)? Also, what do you mean by "content in sync?" Thanks for the well wishes Homer. I appreciate it!
Hi sjusc, whats the address for your site? I'll check it out and see if i can give you some suggestions.
Make sure that the page titles reflect the content of the articles. and that they are also phrases that are being searched for. Structure the articles using header tags, ensure the content is focused well. Make sure your navigation structure is clean and clear. Also try to build a hierarchical structure to your directory folders group all the same themed articles into a group and place them in a folder. eg yoursite.com/subject1/article1.php . Then get backlinks to the site, check how many pages of your site have actually been spidered by the search engines. type in site:www.yoursite.com this will give you a list of the pages that have been indexed. But most of all keep at it, submit your site to directories, and also look at submitting a couple of articles to article depositories, with a link back to your article site.
What I meant was work on both on-page and off-page at the same time. Personally I wouldn't be that concerned with reciprical links, 1 way inbound links from authority websites with good anchor text is your best bet, IMO. Old Welsh Guy is also offering some good on-page advice.
Old Welsh Guy and Homer: Thank you so much. I must have missed OWG's post before, but both of you are really providing great info for a beginner. Thanks a bunch. I appreciate your help!
Quality content/service/value is the first thing you need (to lay the foundation, so to speak). Then start promoting it with links, promoting to other webmasters etc. If you have a finished, high-quality site you will get much more out of your traffic, because traffic on a low-quality site does not turn into new links. IMO, the steps are: 1. make a quality site first that is finished or has a critical mass of content to look like a well-established site 2. work on making other webmasters aware of your site (ask the question: Where do the people who can give me links hang out?) 3. link building in other words, don't try to promote an unfinished site.
Very good advice. However I found that Google will consider a valid site 5 pages, so it really doesn't take much to create. Once that's completed start your backlink campaign, then continue building your site up, while still running your IBL campaign. Also, if your are considering buying links...BE CAREFUL! Google is against purchasing links to artificially inflate SERPS or PR.
It is not just about Google, it is about other webmasters. I personally won't accept to link to a 5 page site and many directory editors will also refuse to do so. Of course, if you have control over a bunch of your sites you can definitely link earlier than your site is ready.
Nice info in here.. But IMHO content still wins over the backlinks and all. Backlinks and all help to certain extent. But the visitors you want will mainly come after your content. So i would say start the campaign and at same time go ahead with addition of more n more content. Best of Luck with your site.
I agree but many webmasters use this strategy when creating a nest of websites and end up building mountain-sized domains, in this case your refusal to link with a NEW 5 page site is your loss. IMHO, in your assessment of a 5 page site other factors should be considered. Many can put up a good rebuttal over that but I personally support your point of view. Adding that, done properly you can accelerate obtaining traffic by doing both at once. There is nothing wrong with adding new content pages after you launch your 5 page site, IMO.
Hi Again sjusc, First off nice clean site, I like it.. ;p Okay, time to get into it.. Some suggestions.. Longer articles.. - A lot of your articles are short, two paragraphs etc.. Try writing some longer in depth articles.. Reason being, your market is extremely competitive, so you really need to be able to provide a good volume of informative information... User's will love you for it, along with the SE's.. Try placing links in your articles to other articles on your site that have similar or related content... The other thing here to take note of here, Is the text you use to link to those articles.. You don't want it to be the same as the page/article title, but close to it, add in some variations.. The idea is to make the links look organic.. Have you applied have your site added to any of the free directories? Dmoz / Jayde etc. It might not bring much traffic but it's always a good start to try and get your sites listed with the directories around the place.. Hope that helps you out a bit..
Jeremy, Thank you so much for the advice. I appreciate your help! I will definitely expand on the articles you recommended, and work those links into it. I haven't yet applied to the directories because I don't think my site is ready yet. It's hard work, man! But it's something you could call your own, so the rewards are there. I guess it's a newfound passion. I'm sure you're loving it because I could see it in your sites. Thanks again, Jeremy. And thanks to all of you for the replies so far =)
YES, content is the king. But you need to be indexed by spiders to know about the content. You need as much backlink from any website. It is wonderfull if you have a link on a PR4,5 or 6 website. Your site will be indexed after a day. Page rank it is calculated only at 3 months, your site will modify PR somewhere on Octomber.
