Ok, I have a .co.uk blog & website. I've been told by countless people that I need .com for a blog, if anyone is going to visit it. Now, my blog name.com is taken, I own .net and I own a derivative of it in .com; but .co.uk has PR3 and some pretty decent SERPs, what should I do? :| Any advice would be appreciated
Nope not necessary .com I have a .biz blog that received visitors around 50k every month and earned more than 1k per month
More people automatically type .com when searching for a site, but in SERPS it does not matter if you have a .com or a .info site. it all boils down to SEO.
jusy go with your insticts about how it sounds, sometimes .coms are much better, but I know of a .net site that has 100,000 forum members, so they can be just as successful
hm, well I currently have gpearce.co.uk running, in my sig, and I also own gpearce.net and gspearce.com , GPearce.com is someone else's I was considering changing the name totally, and just starting again, but that would mean a new domain, and I'm poor I'm thinking about it, but yeah, .com is mroe popular, but they are all taken now
.com is King, that's correct, but .org and .net are close also. The extension won't affect your ranking, but it may affect it in other way, for example, I don't like extensions different the above 3, and it sometimes stops me from visiting some site. Be sure others are acting the same way.
In my mind .com is the most successful TLD followed by .net, .org, and some country code TLDs, and maybe one from the first round. All you need to do is Optimize your site well for the Search Engines. Since most of the traffic comes-in through Search Engines and Referral sites. [Just Clicks - No one need to type the domain name]. Only direct visitors need to type the domain name in address bar. If the visitor likes your site for once. He will not find it difficult to type your domain and never bother about TLD or how long is your domain name. Perfect SEO is the only solution for any domain name with any TLD. Cheers!
In my opinion, yes, and no one knows for certain whether or not the extension has an effect on your search engine results. If you don't have any other choice and if this is a name you've been using for a long time, then I guess I would consider choosing the .net.
webmasters still prefer .com for business related sites, but it's not necessary to get a .com domain everytime. You can register any domain for your site. No problem at all.
