    Hi,
I wanted to buy a new domain name but just about everything that i want is not available in .com extension.. the question i want to ask is that will i be at loss in terms of SEO (especially for google) if i use a .net or .info extension??

In search engines .net should not make any difference. It makes it harder to promote off line because most people use .com.

Try .com and only because it is more popular

Google doesn't give any preference to .com , but it is just more popular.

All the idea of the domain range type is to portray the domain to it's targeted visitors. I think you should focus more on the name of the domain and less on the suffix.

If for some reason your domain would work well with .info or .net, you should just go for those. Otherwise, try .com first, then .net, then .info.

Domain extentions do not effect SEO in anyway, *.edu or *.gov does not get more weight than *.info as with *.com, this is common SEO knowledge.

.com's all the way, followed by .net

I wouldn't touch a .info if I could help it.

.com is much more preferred but I guess it won't make much difference if you have a good site.

It's just a "prestige" thing. People will assume you've been around a while, or paid a lot of money for a .com domain. .info's have a bad rep because you can buy them for .88 cents, therefore many spammers use them. Although I have seen a few .info sites that were great.

exactly... that is the original point of the thread.. BTW thank you all for sharing your thoughts with me... i just bought a really cool domain name in the .net extension... i know people find .com as the natural extension for a site but you also have to consider that if your url does not contain the main keyword of the site then SEO wise it is bad... so i'm gonna take chances on this one.. and .info really sucks more than .net... also i've seen a hell lot of .net extension sites with really high traffic... so ultimately it comes down to the quality of your content... so thank you all for your replies and time....

Some people might not agree but personally i believe .com and .net are easier to rank than cctlds or less famous gtld.

People can disagree all the want about it, it's a fact that the extention doesn't matter unless you get into country TLDs.
