Hi, I am looking at starting up a gossip website and have a quick query. Is .com domain extension better than .net to use for a gossip website? If I have both the .com & .net is it best practice to forward .net to the .com? Thanks and look forward to your replies.
Yes .com is likely preferred, though if you optimize it well it shouldn't matter whether you choose .com or .net, it's not going to give enough of a difference to matter, I don't believe anyway IMO.
So in terms of search engine positioning does .com hold a stronger value in terms of ranking a website on search engines? I see that some gossip websites have .net extensions and there in the top gossip websites in the world, wouldn't it me a smarter move since these websites are worth a premium price to just buy the .com extension where for some there still available to buy for a fraction of the price compared to what there worth and their monthly revenue earnings?
I will setup my website under .com extension and just forward .net since .com is the most popular and ranks as the more popular domain name on search engines and on the internet in general.
The .com domain extension will probably increase the site's sell value, if you ever decide to do that. It will have no importance in the search engines. That being said, if people routinely search for domainname.com instead of domainname.net in the search engines, having the .com becomes an inherent SEO advantage.
.com will always be the preferred extension because this is what people are used to seeing and typing. Yes, forward the .net to the .com. But it really all comes down to how popular your gossip site becomes. If it's any good and begins to get lots and lots of traffic it wont really matter.
I will prefer .com which is the best option for domain extension , everyone will give you the same opinion. If the it do have the keywords that you need and it famous no point you get the .net as well to secure the name and you can redirect it to .com .
COM domains are usually the best option, but depends on the concept. A friend of mine used to have several gossip-related websites and she got a NET domain to centralize them. Good idea because it was The Gossip NETwork
Are they both identical? If so, then the .com without a doubt should be the primary domain. Not sure why you even bother with the .net….
