Is choosing a short .me domain name a bad idea?

I'm looking to register a domain name like www.r34.me, mainly because I think it looks cool and is relevant to me personally, r being relevant to my name and 34 being relevant to my birthday. I was inspired by the domain of this site > http://gf3.ca/

I was planning on having different categories such as japan.r34.me and writing articles in each of the categories. I was just wondering if people coming from search engines would be deterred by the domain name, as it might appear to be spammy. I'd love to use the domain, but not if it has a negative impact on potential visitors.

Is it known if people coming from the google search results actually look at the domain in the results?

I think it is only good to use a .me domain if it fits the keywords or use for the site. You should still be able to rank just as well using the .me extension.

That wasn't really my question, I was asking if people would be put off by the url because it looks kind of spammy.

I don't think it looks spammy in my opinion. I have seen several trustworthy .me websites in the past.

Short domain names are hot right now -- especially when used in combination with URL shorteners. (Bit.ly redirects to your short domain for free.) Since people expect to see this type of thing on sites like Twitter, it isn't seen as spam at all.

I really like .me domains - pity they are more expensive then com/net

.me = great for personal use or service that is "for people", at least that's how I see it.

I guess there is a possibility, but it would depend on the combination of letters and numbers. R34.ME may look OK, but 5PA.ME may look a bit spa.m e ;)
Do you know if there are any LLL .me's still available? If so, they would probably be better in the long run.

Yeah I agree, interest in them seems to be on the rise as well which is good.
I would have liked to have gotten a heap of names in the .me extension when it was first released. The only one I ended up getting was Leo.me

    Cheers

Leo.me is a pretty good catch. Don't really know if there are any 3 letter combos left but certainly plenty of 3 number/letter combos.

Yeah it was a pretty good catch, gets a bit of interest from time to time as well (out of the blue emails etc).
I'd imagine that generic keywords, LLL's and NNN's would have been the first to go. I jumped on board early, got carried away in the moment and regged way too many. I did get quite a few good ones, but also some shockers which I let drop.
Looking at my list, I actually have a LLL or two that I have no current plans for. So if your interested, PM me and we'll work something out (maybe trade for content or advertising or whatever).

I guess you don't look hard enough.
    EG - EG - EG - EG - EG - etc

    Cheers
