I'm starting a chat site with a coworker and we wanted to make a simple chat site. We registered for chatphile.com, and was wondering if the name suits the service. phile (for those who don't know) is "to like something". Any thoughts?
I don't know the original history of the word. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/phile ^ for what phile is. It's like a pedophile, videophile, etc.
I don't know, i never really knew what a phile was until now, but you don't necessarily have to go with a word that has a meaning at all. When looked up at webster it appears that phile is a variation of phil. Originally it sounded spanish to me, which I thought might turn people away from the site, but I was mistaken. Its a short name, so you have that going for you.
I dont like the sound of phile, I think it sounds negative due to its other (more sick) meanings and uses. Instead, why not try chattr, chatsee, chatteroo, chattermoz, chatchat, chitchat, chatit, idlechat e.t.c
It sounds a bit negative. Maybe people will think it's a chatroom where paedophiles can lure their victims.
I'd have to agree it sounds too much like pedophile and for me it would instantly have a negative leaning toward the site. I would change the name. I own chirpbox.com and chirpbox.net . . .I'm not really willing to sell them but if offered the right price I might bite. Anyway those are just my 2 cents. Skinny
