Is changing my internal url structure worth it?

Hi guys. I run a blog wich has been doing ok. It currently has over 900 posts. I´m planning to do some SEO work but i wanted to get an opinion before making rough changes.

First i´d like to change the url structure from

    http://www.myblog.com/archives/year/month/day/post-title

    to

    http://www.myblog.com/post-title

The problem is the entries have over 1k links pointing to them and i´m afraid they´d lose relevancy if i redirect the pages with 301´s.

Do you think it would be worth the trouble? i think shorter url´s could improve my rankings or at least the CTR but i´d like to know how can this affect this pages.

    Thanks

I had to do the same thing when I changed CMS, Google and the search engines have to understand this too. I put up 301s (still have them up from the originals 2 years ago too), then go around asking all these people with links if they would kindly update their link to the following to avoid having bad links.

It's worked well enough for me. I still have about 30 incoming links that get 301'd to their proper pages and all's fine with it really.
