Is Cake PHP good for building CMS?

    Hi there

Is there anyone using CakePHP http://cakephp.org? If so, can you use it to build a custom CMS? I want to build my own CMS from scratch without having to use a license.

I have a basic understanding of PHP but not a lot.

    I appreciate your help.

    Many thanks in advance
    CHEERS :)

Sure, many have been built, but Symfony is told to be easier and faster. Also, you'd want to have a little more than the basic php knowledge.

True! I found this link: http://www.phpframeworks.com/, a comparison to other PHP framework. I will do more research, and find out how to use them to my advantage. However, as long as I can build my own CMS, and without having the copyright logo on my CMS??

I agree with some above, in my experience, Simfony is easier and faster

I'm not a big fan of frameworks anyway :/

I built my CMS from Zend Framework. The library available inside of Zend is great. It includes everything you need and I would highly recommend that you use Zend Framework. (I have been developing this said CMS for many years so I did a lot of research on the matter).
With that said, I haven't regretted my choice at all.
