Is buying traffic, a good marketing technique or not???

    Hi,

My post is in regard to traffic that can be bought. (Is it a good marketing technique)
You know what I'm referring to, a lot of these sites, selling "Quality" Traffic etc. I own an online service providing company, my service is targetted at webmasters. Now, Webmasters appears as a category in almost all these traffic sellers lists. The other day, I bought a few thousand visitors, the visitors came to the site as promised, but nothing more!!! Not a single order was placed. So I was wondering if it was just my darn luck and also really wondering if anyone has had any better experiences in this matter. Because if you did, then this could definitely be a good marketing technique, cheaper than most "targeted ad services".

    Regards,
    Aditya

It is always recommended that your traffic should be targeted in order to have good conversion it does not matter from which source it came.

normally when you buy traffic, it will not be your target visitors. so it's useless to spend money on something that it's not helpful or worth the money. The traffic they promise mostly are just the stat but not the real visitors so I would say it's useless.

i would NOT recommend buying traffic 99.999% of it is crap traffic and you would be just throwing your money away

work on your link building and add fresh content daily and traffic will come

The link building is one good way to get traffic, but you can buy traffic only if it is targeted.

This is probably the biggest factor to consider, lets narrow the issue down some more. Is it possible that they are all a HOAX? Technically speaking, all PPC advertising and this traffic buying concept are similar in one certain way. They both claim to drive targetted traffic (in lay mans terms, relevant visitors, relevant in the sense, people who are closely associated with your field/niche/market of operation). Another imporatant thing that I learnt was, these traffic sellers: Make your advertisement appear in the form of a pop-up.
Do the stats that are displayed in your campiagn area after buying these services reflect impressions (pop-up appears, but is not clicked on) OR are they clicks???
    Anyone, on this?

So they delivered wat they promised. Were you expecting some conversion outta this, you joking! rite??

haven't you heard of people just being paid to surf! my best frds boyfriend does that for his pocket money!!

    You gotta optimize your site,
try out google adwords or yahoo or watever that suits yaa!
pop up sucks big time, if it aint catchy, it usually has the negative impression, around 35% of the user have mozilla with in built pop blocker in them, some use softwares to avoid pop-ups.

    Protocol 96,
No I'm not joking, didn't know what to expect when I paid, the only reason I Did that was to take a chance and see how it goes!

Because, if it did work, it would be a lot cheaper, and yes I already invest close to $1000 on Adwords each month, I'm from India too like you, so you understand that 40k a month in our currency is expensive!

    Regards

It is a good marketing techniques if you can buy targeted traffic. Otherwise it is useless. I have a free email service just like hotmail etc. By the way, it is almost 8 years old and i have more than 50,000 subscribers (inactive subscribers are purged from the system). Ads on that site will be untargeted. Unless you can come up with ad targeting system based on semantic processing, like gooogle's adsense.

If you buy traffic it better convert. Don't buy traffic for traffic. When I advertise on google for my polling site 1 in 5 become members. If you are trying to sell something try to get at least 2 out of 100.

Without buying traffic time and content will bring the search engine hits.

Buying links on high traffic websites can be good. I wouldnt recommend buying traffic packages eg $5 for 1000 hits. Waste of money doing that

I did some research into this once and found out that most of those traffic companies are sending you "bots" from porno sites that just index and feed off of each other, and although it would appear it was a unique IP visitor, it's really just bots. Don't waste your money.

    Thanks guys,

Seems like it's very clear, I spent some time in the last three days looking for answers too. I agree that no one should buy traffic for the sake of traffic. That's agreed upon unanimously!!! I also agee with whizkidsecrets.com, I also came across a few instances where I realized these could all be bots!!!

    Thanks Guys
I'm not spending a single dollar on this no more!!!!

Just my thoughts but I think it'd be much more effective to do things the way they're suppose to be done.

You're going to get a lot of bogus traffic, and even traffic that is real still wouldn't be targetted.

Google is saying they don't want people selling links right? If that IS the case, why risk doing it?

Spend the money on fractional advertising. Find relevant areas and buy advertising there. Or better yet, maybe find someone who also runs a site that appeals to webmasters and partner up. That can even double your traffic and it'd be qualified.

I think direct purchase advertising is great for small sites. Not necessarily the adwords way, but contacting sites that you think woudl be great to advertise on, and setting up deals, or trading links.

I guess my thoughts are to do this organically rather than trying a quick fix like buying traffic.

FYI if this is the site you're talking about "http://contentbuilding.com/" just letting you know it really doesn't look good in IE7. it looks as though it were designed and checked in firefox. However, even in FF the links in the samples on the right don't work (underlying code errors)
