Is buying a Yahoo link in their directory worth it?

What do you guys think? Do you guys think that the Yahoo directory brings in enough traffic to make it worth it? Does it increase the PR of a domain enough, in your opinion?

    Thanks,
    Stev

No, in my opinion it's vastly overpriced for any benefit you may goet out of it in terms of traffic or SEO.

Y pay when you can get freely lisited in sometime? I have many of my sites lisited on yahoo for free.

A site having quality content surely finds a place in every directory.

Commercial sites have to pay to be listed. Non commercial sites can apply for a free listing. There are ways around this, but putting up an initial non commercial site and then changing once it's been accepted, but this is probably more trouble than it's worth.

The Yahoo listing is really overpriced but it is probably a good idea to get listed there. It depends of the web site.

It's not really worth the amount, I think it's silly to spend your marketing funds in such a way and worse it's a recurring amount! What's the use of paying nearly $300 to be listed for a year only!

You could have used that same amount to hire someone to submit your website to almost all the other directories, for sure you would have got a lot more backlinks and popularity.

Exactly, you can pick up hundreds of links with $300 rather than one from a directory that sends 0 traffic. This will do you far more good in the long run in SEO terms.

Yeah the Yahoo one does seem way way overpriced.

But the MSN directory is not so bad its even better if you have a lot of sites to submit cos you get a deal for multiple submissions.

With the MSN one it is $50 but you get 3 listings in the directory and you also get your owen page where you can have another 6 links used to deep link to particaular sections of your site.

SEO specialists suggest to list sites in Yahoo directory just for improving SERP, because if you are listed in Yahoo directories then your site is trusted and get higher position in Google, Yahoo etc.
FYI - for $299 we received just few clicks...

Does the $300 even guarantee a listing?

I don't think so. I wouldn't even consider a Yahoo directory listing. For the price, I could buy/get more effective items (backlinks, etc).

No they still have the poser to refuse you even after you've paid. I've never heard of it happening though.

It doesn't guarantee, but if you have a good web site they will list it - no reasons to reject. If you plan to submit your site to a certain category check the sites listed there before submitting. It will give you an impression what type of sites they accept.

It really is the first step to getting traffic. Since your site
is reviewed by an editor it is a stepping stone to credibility.

After thinking about it for months, I listed my site in the Y directory. I don't think I get traffic from the directory itself, but it GREATLY improved my serp's on the Y search.

For most of my keywords, I am on page 1 since listing with the directory.

Also, it will give you several backlinks in Google, because the listing is for all the Y directories (IE US, Canada, UK, Australia, etc.)

At least that's how it worked for my site. So for me, it was worth it.

One site I got in the yahoo directory for free and I do not rank good at all in yahoo compared to google and msn. Then I had another site I paid for inclusion and our rankings in the yahoo engine shot up big time.

So who knows. I would try to get listed free first.

I don't think its worth it, but they say on average it brings few visitors to a website.
