Is breaking apart longtail keywords equally effective?

example : keyword "big red nuclear submarine"

For SEO purposes, would it be affective if used in this manner " big red mama goes nuclear when she saw the submarine" or should it be used as a whole?

It gets a bit difficult at times to squeeze the whole phrase in and the sentences sound forced, funny even

see how I have free adult image host in my sig

on live.com I rank #4 for "adult image host" but #5 for "free adult image host" and I really have only targeted "free adult image host"

meaning that it accounts for all the words in my keyword string.

no, it doesnt work like that, lindaadams example doesnt apply because your keywords are seperated whereas linda's are still in sequence

And you are getting in a more competitive area by adding the 'free'.

As for the big red nuclear submarine: I'd keep it together where possible, but it can't hurt to have a few extra nuclear's and submarine's in the content.

Anyway density isn't all. Positioning is also very important. If you can keep it together in a link and in the headers, that would be better.
