Personally, I'm not a real fan of any search engine. Bing does bring better results than Google, in my opinion. For me, it's really just a matter of which search engine is my homepage for the day. If I've got my email open, though, I use Bing (hint, hint...live email user here, my alternative to Gmail).
Yeah, but there'll inevitably be the swing away from Google as it is now the big brother (it's already underway), and dissociating Bing from MS as a brand was a good marketing move that made a lot of sense. I think you'll see an interesting shift to B from G in the net too distant future ...
Personally I don't understand what makes Google so popular, other than all the hype about it online. Microsoft's Internet Explorer, which ships with virtually all brand named computers, uses Bing as its default search engine. They also have Google beat out on advertising as I can't ever remember seeing a TV commercial featuring Google. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense for it to be so popular. In regards to which one is better, I believe that just depends upon who is using it. Some people will favor Google, and others would rather deal with Bing. But you would think Microsoft would have the bigger numbers by now because they have the ability to control the software behind 95% of computers today. If they can't succeed here, that's pretty pathetic...
Well what ever you want to call it, there is some intrigue about how they have kept the Microsoft name far away from it. Even on the xbox or any other product release, you will always see the "by Microsoft" not here.
they needed a new catch phrase name to seperate them from all the things people didnt like about past products so sure it is kind of a brand much like google is, but also a product much like google is
yea i know i mean i just bought this windows pc and i loaded IE and guess what bing loaded i mean god! sad fact people use bing to search for google if you look at it that way you will see it has alot of + signs.
MSN had been discussed against other instant messaging about 10 more years ago, and now it dominate. Nowadays , I think Bing is less strength to fight with google brand in the same strategy above , unless in other niche or position.
I'm guessing you weren't around in the mid 90s, but Google was a revolution: you could finally use ONE search engine, and get pertinent results from it without drowning in an overbloated interface that just confused the hell out of everything. They came up with great algorithms and kept perfecting them. As for the ad revenues ... they OWN online advertising, because they own online searching. And they make billions (literally) out of just that. Besides, I don't know how it works elsewhere, but in EU member states, Bing isn't the default search engine for fresh IE installs, and it's about to get even more difficult for it to be a favored choice. That said, on aesthetics (ie usability) alone, I'd (almost) be tempted to try Bing. MS was just a big "no" for me, for the same reasons.
