One of my new website will be available soon. Is better to accept more payment methods ? My intentions are to accept : Paypal , Moneybookers , PayPay , Alertpay , Click2pay , Netteler , Perfectmoney , a credit/debit card procesator, and a text message system ( Surfpin , Onebip , Boku ).
What do you think ? Please help me.

The only 2 that I would say have both no matter what, would be credit card acceptance, and separately Paypal.

There's a good percentage of shoppers that prefer Paypal, and a good percentage that will not use it under any circumstance. It's a good idea to cover both bases there.

Depending on your product there may be some other alternative payment methods that you would benefit from offering, but those 2 are pretty much a necessity.

    That's alot of sevices..
Will you be able to implement all?
Anyway I would go for CreditCard, Paypal , and text message system for small payments.
just my 2 cents here ;)

Yes, I want to put more services.
Some will prefer to pay by Paypal, Moneybookers others, others use AlertPay ...
The idea is that I do not want to lose customers because they can not pay online. Many Internet sites lose customers because some of them are unable to pay only by Paypal or credit cards.
I put all the options listed and depending on preference and possibility, it will choose its own method by which you pay.

This is a good summary and many site owners don't understand it.

I would say the potential pitfalls are not properly/cleanly integrating them into your site, and your customer getting confused by so many methods. If you have the ability to integrate and properly track sales through multiple channels, then there's little drawback from having many options. Also, make sure to display the most popular methods more prominently than the others.

    Hi,

I also think that micropayment options will give your website an advantage, especially when customer cannot pay either with Pay Pal or credit card.

If you look at larger ecommerce websites many of them only accept credit or debit cards. So really this is all you need. Including paypal may increase sales a bit depending on demographic you are selling to. Other than these 2 options I dont think is would be worth the effort. People that shop online expect to pay with a card or via Paypal.
