Hi, Being from the UK I am watching the up coming USA election from the outside and one thing I have noticed is that everyone is talking about Barack Obama but I don't hear about John McCain. I guess the prolonged Democratic nomination meant that Obama was in the news more. Also I see that he has a trip coming up to the middle east and that is starting to get some coverage. So my question for you folks in the USA is this: Is Barack Obama a forgone conclusion because I don't hear about John McCain. Thanks, Gary
Guess what? New McCain ad says nation has Obama to 'thank' for soaring gas prices... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiTpS4MK3D8 McCain is a stupid joker. Blaming Obama for rise in fuel prices? funny, funny, funny.... Source: http://blogs.usatoday.com/onpolitics/2008/07/new-mccain-ad-s.html
No... I wouldn't say it's a forgone conclusion although he is definitely favored. The #1 reason he's favored is the same reason any Democrat would be - George W. Bush. Anyway, a lot can happen between now & November and I don't feel *that* confident that Obama is going to win - I do think he will. But ... Like I said, a lot can happen. I think Obama is just a much more interesting story - McCain is a pretty weak candidate really. I think the only way McCain wins is with an insane amount of negative campaigning against Obama - which they will try. They're already trying some pretty sleazeball tactics. McCain has all of the worst guys working for him, Bill Kristol, Karl Rove. They'll do whatever they can.
I wouldn't doubt if McCain wins, if he's willing to play dirty like Bush did in the last elections I guarantee he will win. Even if he doesn't, the swift boat type ads that the candidate does not have to rubber stamp will and can have an effect. Where I'm at I see more on McCain than Obama, more ads, more news, more everything.
He had a big boost this weekend with the Iraqi PM saying he thought Obama's withdrawal plan for Iraq was the most accurate to reality. I'd definitely say Obama is soaring right now, but there's still months to go.
Could go either way naturally. Obama may be in the news alot more, but in this type of situation any publicity isn't always good publicity. We'll have to see what happens is all anyone can really say.
I agree with you and wanted to share an interesting article I found regarding his overseas trip: Arianna Huffington: Tell Me Again, Why Is Obama Being Popular With Our Allies a Bad Thing?
