Hi, I want to know whether backlinks are important in yahoo seo or not? I have seen several websites ranking well in google with fewer backlinks than others. Please clarify. Thanks
Yahoo backlinks have no real value in the Google environment. They help in the Yahoo environment. But what it does reflect is the number of links you have obtained or - Yahoo shows more of the links than Google does. G is know for not showing all the links you have received and the Toolbar is just BS. Don't believe it. Both G and Y have Webmaster Tools that reflect the "correct" amount, us it. But for site comparison, link count is hard to obtain.
Backlinks are important for pretty much every search engine. The more quality back links you have, the higher you can rank. Sometimes a site can rank well based on a low amount of high quality links. So as coolamazer was trying to say....quality is more important than quantity.

I am constantly keeping track of competitors back links and there are many competitors serps with fewer backlinks that rank higher than those who have more backlinks.. It tends to support the statements that quality is important when it comes to backlinks. Many of us fall into the trap of getting more links when we should emphasize quality back links, high pr, great content, authority sites, relevent sites.............I will take a link if I can get it, but stay away from bad neighborhoods, try and get relevent links, from competitors if you can get them, and accumulate links of value when possible. Where do you get quality back links? Depends on your niche or nature of your site but for instance if you have a site about auto parts, check to see what high pr sites your competitors are obtaining via Yahoo backlink searches, what authority sites exist in your niche? I have learned what and where the quality back links are in my niche by watching who the top ranking competitors in my area are, who is linking to them and it becomes clear who the quality back links are and aren't.
